But let's not forget the fiction we've been sold. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien’s empty promises of protection against autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and robots are nothing but lies. His words are a smokescreen, a feeble attempt to cover up the union's complicity in the erosion of our rights and livelihoods.

"We will have by our initial phase. we will have 400 buildings that will be fully automated. And, with this automation, we're going to drive out costs. We'll drive out 3 billion dollars of costs between now and 2028 and half of that will be realized by 2026."

Question: Carol, so automation doesn't necessarily mean layoffs?

"Automation is automating inside the buildings. It means EVERYTHING. Using automating for route automatization. We're using automation to change addresses. Using automation to sort packages of course (laughing). Using automation to put packages in to package cars and deliver it. So it's end to end automation. And with end to end automation, yeah, there is a productivity opportunity which means we don't need as many people to move the packages we have today. But there is an opportunity for those people to do something else."

Just starting now end-to-end automation = a minimum 100,000 jobs cut by 2030. 300,000 by 2040. Pension underfunded and retirees receiving letters that their annuity will be cut by 50% or more around 2035. Someone shouted at me that if I don't like UPS I should "work at McDonald's" - imagine being a retired RCPD or full-time inside worker and having to flip burgers because the pension has no new members? Oh wait, flipping burgers will be automated too.
