Does anyone think UPS didn’t have a plan ? Did anyone notice they sat back and watched all the theater , the practice picketing, and all the tough guy acts? They calculated the savings from all this automation and let us think we had beaten them . All they needed was five years of a secured contract to implement the plan to eliminate most of the inside jobs through robotics .

The implications here are obvious, negate all the historic gains by the use cost cutting automation . Well planned .

Not a big WSWS fan but I think this article is spot on. With everything going on and all the news reports of UPS's investment in automation and driverless trucks our union had to know this was all coming. If any one thinks they will stop with the sort there kidding themselves. This company will look much different in five years and we have missed our opportunity to make sure any new work or new jobs will be teamster jobs.
When UPS says they will mitigate the cost of the contract with technology, like Tome says, we should pay attention. The unionn is saying its normal after peak to see reductions but this is different, there's more going on then normal, we shall see.
