Teamsters and Trump

For anyone who is a trade unionist, this would make absolutely zero sense. For anyone who has dealt with SOB, it makes perfect sense. They're two peas in a pod. They're both paranoid, vindictive, petty nepobabies who operate their respective organizations through fear and intimidation. The biggest difference is the law has caught up with Trump. Hasn't yet with SOB, but have no doubt, it will.

Following the huge Union fight against issue 5 (public sector RTW), the Ohio Conference shifted their political position.
In an agreement that resembles paying your lunch money to the class bully, so he won't beat the shit out of you.
Since then, there is a protection agreement in place, the Teamsters give their DRIVE funds to anti-union Republicans in exchange, the Republicams have agreed not to force RTW thru in the heavily Republican dominated house and senate.

Do you really think the GEB will endorse Trump? Don't you think talking to all candidates makes sense for an endorsement process? Having meaningful discussion works better then shunning potentially elected officials.
Having some public disclosure of those meetings shows transparency and sends signals to the eventual endorsed candidate not to take the Teamsters for granted.
I hate Trump more than most, but how many Teamster members voted for him? A lot. It sends the right signal to those members that our union engages all political affiliations.
Rather than spurn those members, show them the error of their ways politely.Comment

It would not be "spurning those [Trumper] members" to not show up in Mar-a-Lago. Speak respectfully, honestly and openly to all members about Trump's record. The Teamsters have a history of attempting to triangulate against the Labor Movement as a whole by supporting (or playing footsie with) anti-Union politicians. Thing is, these cynical manuevers never pay off for the members (occasionally these manuevers pay off for corrupt officials). The wooing of Republicans for help in saving Teamster pensions is a good example. Trump was no help, and when it happened, it got zero/nadda/zip Republican votes in Congress.Comment
