This is payback for election help and prevention from further challenges from the UPS Local 853 members who oppose the sellout leadership at 853. Now to the joke of a Local 70, run by 81 year old government informant Frates and his gutless board and agents. To those members who weren't a choice, or told about this transfer, ORGANIZE! Maybe look at it as an opportunity. Local 70 officers, and officials are much more vulnerable and it is a much smaller Local where UPS is the big dog. Take them out. Start now. Also, since there was no change of Ops, you might check with the NLRB about the appropriateness of how this was handled.

It should not come as a “shock” that Local 853 UPS members were gifted to Local 70. Ever since Local 70 S/T Marty “The Rat” Frates was stripped of his UPS leadership role in the West, he has been on a quest to regain power. He, of course, blamed former Local 853 S/T Rome Aloise for all his problems and utilized the IRB/IIO to get his revenge. Based partly on Marty’s lies to the IRB/IIO, Rome was banned for life from the IBT. Rome’s departure set the stage for total chaos, which gave opportunists at JC7, Local 856, 70 and 853 (in partnership with O’Brien and TDU) an opening to purge perceived “enemies” and seize positions of power.

It’s pretty clear that the merger of Local 853 and 287 a few years ago was a mistake. Local 287 had - and always had - serious internal issues. The merger simply injected those issues into Local 853, which, because of the attacks on Rome, had its own issues.

Regardless what you think of Rome Aloise - whether you see him as a crook or a victim - it can be said that his removal from the IBT created a huge vacuum that is being filled by opportunists, rats, backstabbers and incompetent “leaders.” In a larger context, this chaos - and, thus, a weakening of Teamster power - is what the history of the IRB/IIO has worked for since 1989 when the Consent Decree was agreed to.

One has to wonder what Local 853 S/T Steve Beck (currently charged with lying to the IIO) received from Frates (convicted of lying to the IIO) in return for the UPS members. What should concern ALL members is the deceptive, undemocratic way the members were moved; no vote, no debate, no notice. Where is TDU when you need them?

This purely political "raid" with no vote had to be approved by the GEB, right? Wonder how the vote broke down.

I think the point is members want a voice in what local they belong to.
