    Western Pension Sellout

UPS got what its wanted for decades: a freeze in contribution rates, nothing new for five years. Not many outside the West know how our pension works but members here know and we will not forget what O'Brien, Hicks and Davison have done. UPS is the largest employer contributor to the fund, this will hurt all participants in the West. How many companies will now come to the table demanding what O'Brien gave UPS.

Here's a suggestion, that might work better moving forward: The next time you need $.50 or more to prop up failing plans, get it from the company not other Teamsters.

And stop bsing the members with spinning the lack of new contributions. Anyone who signs something explaining how members are still getting increases to their pension to disuade them from understanding that they get no NEW or INCREASED contributions needs to resign for dishonesty!

Please ensure the following email is distributed to the Principal Officer, Business Agents and Staff.

The contract settlement by the IBT, Local Unions and UPS has sparked a number of questions relating to the WCTPT Pension and a number of requests, from Locals relating to current and future benefits members will receive. To that end, we are providing the attached information.

      1. A projection of benefits for Full Time UPS employees and,

      2. A projection of benefits for Part Time UPS employees.

Please note that the projection for full timers is based upon the assumption that a full time employee will work 2080 hours each year and the contribution rate is and will remain at $14.00 an hour.

The projection for part timers assumes 1040 hours each year and a $12.00 contribution rate going forward.

( Some of the UPS Supplemental Agreements have full time and part time rates higher or lower in dollar amounts than those used for these projections. The $14.00 and $12.00 should be considered representative only.)

For full time employees, the $14.00 an hour contribution over the next five years alone will generate a $18,000 benefit. increase (assuming the employee works 2080 hours per year).

Part time employees working 1040 hours at $12.00 per hour rate will grow their benefit by $3,250. over the five years

Any increases in the hourly contribution or the Benefit Accrual will increase the benefits beyond the above projections

This information we hope addresses the question of a pension freeze. There is NONE!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

In response to Chuck Mack"s “This information we hope addresses the question of a pension freeze. There is NONE!” that does not address the 5 year freeze on CONTRIBUTIONS for the West and to CamiloCienfuego self-deleted post above that called part-timers “Communist” we ask…........

The members in the West are up in arms about their lack of annual pension contribution increases. And they should be. The meager .25 in the first year that was recently announced is simply money taken from our Health and Welfare increase, and it is there to try to appease members who called out their leadership for failing them.

And no one is saying their pensions are "frozen," this is an IBT spin and misdirection. We are saying our pension Contributions are frozen and that hurts our members and their families in the pocketbook.

Another spin by West leaders who sold us out on pension increases is "that there is too much money in the fund and that UPS can withdraw from the plan if it's fully funded." That is more bullshit, no company can withdraw without an agreement with the Union to let them out. If we have too much funding does that mean that our Teamster leadership is telling us that if the West is still entirely funded in 2027 that we will not get pension increases for another five years in the next contract too? For a total of ten years without pension contribution increases?

If there is "too much money in the plan" then increase the accrual rate for all plan participants in the Western Region Teamsters Pension. This will help members in all industries who are plan participants and put more money in their pockets when they retire.

It's plain and simple, the more your hourly pension contribution goes up, the bigger retirement check you will collect when you retire. It's also plain and simple, that members in the West deserve at least the same pension increases as the rest of the country.

The Trustees of the West plan drastically cut our accrual rate for many years and kept our plan healthy. The failing plans in New England, Central and the South refused to make these hard decisions and now want the Western Region UPS Teamsters to bail them out.

Be sure to demand a fair pension contribution at your Local Union contract review meetings this weekend and don't allow our leadership to bully you into accepting less then you deserve! If they don't fix it then Vote No!

Literally everyone on here was saying the pension was FROZEN. Like Maury says, “The lie detector determined….THAT WAS A LIE!”

Pension contributions will be frozen at their current rates is what has been said. And that's why many supplements and riders will be rejected that include GST Fred Zuckerman's. Local 89.

Don't be surprised id the national gets rejected. There are more members not getting pension increases than those that are.
