804 UPS workers sleep in cafeteria, wander streets overnight under split-shift regime

UPS has eliminated the Midnight shift at its Manhattan hub, forcing full-time workers onto split shifts with five to six unpaid hours between them—too short for many to travel home and sleep. Workers sleep in the cafeteria, wander the streets and, in some cases, remain cut off from their families, while Teamsters officials reject collective action against the restructuring.

Isn't that Vinnie's local? Maybe he should write another hard hitting letter to his girlfriend Carol Tomme. That has garnered real results in the past. That dude is a phony puke.

When their all back from Ireland for the big Amazon rally in NY, maybe they can turn their collective attention to current dues paying members. How ya goin to organize Amazon when UPS Teamsters are treated like this with no pushback from the union?

It still amazes me how gullible our members are. This was the worse contract ever “ negotiated “ with UPS. It was packaged as a historic victory through a public relations campaign when in actuality it delivered very little. It saved New England’s pension at the expense of the rest of the country. It promised air conditioning and still has not been delivered on. The list of failures in language improvements AND protections are too long to count, yet no one talks about it and no one had the courage to mount a real campaign to run against O’Brien.
The biggest difference in this contract campaign to me is that in the past TDU would have reported on it’s inadequate bargaining and would have strongly spoken about the “ brown out” created by the forcing of NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT’s forced upon the negotiating committees.
Has TDU even mentioned these split shifts being imposed ?
Any members who have actually seen this contract for what it is should start now preparing for the next contract and should start now preparing for the next election.

What makes you think there will be a next election?

Where's the opposition going to come from? Certainly not from existing locals not from TDU. This cycle showed us a rank and file slate is not capable of even getting on the ballot. 38 years of government oversight and a white ballot. TDU a wholly owned subsidiary of the OZholes, and locals that don't have the backbone to stand up to the leprichaun. This does not look promising going forward. Say what you will about O'Brien, he played the game well like it or not.
