The Unions Come for your UPS Packages

    The title shows the slant.
The next potential transportation problem that could shake up the U.S. economy: a Teamsters strike at UPS.

It's important to understand the slanted positions of your oposition, in order to prepare for a battle. This rag is written and read by a significant portion of the population that have no clue about the working class. Don't write it off as irrelevant, while I disagree many embrace this position.

There is no such thing as a “working class” in the United States. I know you would like to believe there is one so you can feel “victimized” and exploited by being forced to fill out a job application. What kind of society do you desire that rises about the productive activity that comes from employment???

We might as well get used to this kind of article as August 1 approaches. UPS has lots of friends in high places and we're going to see them use their connections to talk about $100,000 Package car drivers and $150,000 feeders. We better get our message out so we don't look like they'll try to paint us.

Tell me exactly how UPS is “painting” the facts??? High wages. Health insurance for part time work(unheard of in the real world), dental coverage, vision coverage, mental health availability, emergency room coverage, PRESCRIPTION PLAN(another high end benefit), massive vacation availability, paid sick days, double time pay for hours worked plus 8 hours(Election Day pay, New Years Eve, and Black Friday), a pension AND the availability of participating in a 401k plan(once again, unheard of in the real world to have both), credit union, and job security.

What exactly are you and Sean O’Brien going to strike over and how long are you willing to have other members lose up to $2,000 a week for?

Two-thirds of UPS workers are part-timers that can barely afford to pay for gas to make it to work. In some hubs these PT make it late because they don't own a car. When you started working at UPS the PT wage was probably double the minimum wage. When I started the PT starting wage was well above minimum.

How exactly would you like an economic system to work in a free society??

The Scandinavian and Nordic of Europe nations have a higher standard of living than the U.S. as due Japan and the Persian Gulf nations of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. They make more in wages, with rent controls, guaranteed paid vacation by law and outstanding healthcare coverage.

A true representative democracy, not one that removes people from office for expressing their views, or the color of their skin. We are headed towards an authoritarian government. Embracing unbridled capitalism has never been the answer.
