Union Democracy on ICE: Local 814 Passes, Rescinds anti-Trump Resolution

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien has sided with the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant agenda. Members of a Brooklyn-based Teamsters local tried to go on the record with a vision of solidarity between all workers

I seem to remember that Walter Taylor WAS a big supporter of Sandy Pope years ago. I guess the price of being an officer now means fealty to Obrien at the cost of what once was personal values. It seems very strange to go from a TDU steering committee member where the phrase “Vote until you get it right “ was a condemnation of a Hoffa practice to adopting the same method. Actually I guess it’s not so strange since the leadership of TDU has lead by example by abandoning their core principles in favor of financial gains and a “seat at the table”.

Taylor and Sylvester did a video supporting Pope! I wonder what she thinks of the state of affairs in the teamsters now?

If we let Local autonomy slip away we'll deserve what we get, the IBT version of authoritian rule. Maybe what happened at 814 means it's already happened.

Yet, there are different interpretations of "Local autonomy".

Wasn't Taylor a TDU darling once? So many have either left and or been kicked to the curb by the OZHOLES ass kissing duo of Paff and Levin. BTW I'm not throwing any shade on Taylor who is a solid guy. Their silence on issues like this is deafening. They are O'Brien's MAGA squad.

What is the old saying ? “All it takes for evil to succeed is when good men do nothing” ?
Or something like that ……..too many “ good people” have sat back and done or said nothing.

Is this union seriously supporting scabs? So, we now allow illegals to take our union jobs without provocation. WOW!!!!!

A Chicago Teamsters local is demanding a packaging company refuse to allow federal immigration enforcement on their property without warrants, as a top tenet of their overall demands. The workers are seeking assurances from Mauser that it will require ICE to display a warrant signed by a judge before they are allowed on the property. The strike at Mauser Packaging Solutions’ plant in the heavily-Hispanic “Little Village” neighborhood has lasted more than two months and the Teamsters Local 705 negotiator recently refused the factory’s latest offer, according to multiple reports. About 140 people work at the plant, which reconditions metal barrels for chemical storage – and a plurality are Latino, according to the American Prospect. CHICAGO MAYOR CONCLUDES COUNCIL-DEMANDED PROBE OF CITY POLICE’S ROLE DURING RECENT ICE RAID One striking worker told the outlet that he and others are concerned that ICE may target them on a racial basis even if they are able to prove legal residency. The Prospect reported the strike began over a separate issue: allegations of employee surveillance during discussions with union representatives amid contract bargaining. The Illinois-based global company’s striking workers also collected a big-name voice in their court during that time: Chicago Mayor Brandon […]

Its unclear, to me, what your question refers to. The striking Mauser workers in 707, are/were fighting to protect immigrant workers who are members of that bargaining unit. If they're unit members, whether documented or not, they're subject to any Union security provisions, and therefore must be fairly represented by the Union; under past (not sure that's changed) rulings the NLRB has made that current law. That's my understanding. Can you explain the intent of your above quoted post? Thanks.

You would be right. I used the name scab out of context.

The revoking of the anti-ICE resolution in Local 814 is a disgrace. All the O'Brien enablers playing a 2-faced game pretending to be anti-Trump are an insult to the rank & file. Campos or Perrone might be the biggest suck-up phony.
