Sean O'Brien Sold Labor to Trump and Got Nothing

The Teamster boss has cozied up to the GOP, but the Republicans’ anti-labor politics are the same as ever.

This is a surprise to nobody. Not even O'Brien. He obviously was not thinking about the Teamsters Union when he cozied up to Trump. He was thinking about other disgusting politics that are more important to him. In that position you are required (at least morally) to make the memberships' issues your primary focus. He's a sellout.

Seems like all SOB's friends are union busters and people who think their in the elite class looking down on workers. Besides his terrible labor record Markwayne Mullen is considered by everyone at the capital to be an absolute moron, so lets put him in charge of securing the country.

The below is from today's TDU website. Ok, let's see what Trump's NLRB will do with this decision, if it ever gets around to it.

Federal Court Invalidates Pro-Worker Cemex Decision

              Posted on March 10, 2026

The Sixth District Court of Appeals has refused to enforce a landmark NLRB decision that Teamsters and other unions have used to organize the unorganized and stand up to employers who violate labor law.

Under Cemex, if a union demonstrates that a majority of employees support the union, the employer has to either voluntarily recognize the union or file for an election.

The Teamsters have used this rule to organize thousands of workers, including at Amazon.

The Appeals Court has sent the issue back to the National Labor Relations Board, where employer-friendly members are expected to overturn Cemex nationwide.

The Teamsters won the landmark decision in 2023 after a long legal battle stemming from an organizing campaign in Southern California and Nevada.

The company, Cemex Construction Materials Pacific, committed over two dozen unfair labor practices, including threats, intimidation, threats of plant closures and surveillance, after drivers tried to unionize with the Teamsters.

Under the Cemex decision, if an employer committed violations during a union representation election that were egregious enough to invalidate the election, the NLRB could order the employer to bargain with the union.

The Teamsters and other unions have used the Cemex framework to increase organizing. Today’s decision is a victory for employers. But organizing the unorganized will continue.

AND THIS DISSENT OF THAT DECISION BY BIDEN'S APPOINTED JUDGE ON THE SIXTH CIRCUIT:
Judge Mathis, appointed by President Biden, dissented from the Opinion, arguing that the Board properly exercised its policymaking authority through adjudication. The dissent emphasized that Congress gave the Board broad discretion to choose between rulemaking and adjudication, and that the majority’s approach “exalt[s] form over [administrative] necessity.” Judge Mathis would have enforced the bargaining order, finding Cemex consistent with the Board’s remedial authority and Supreme Court precedent in Gissel.

I'm not going to sit here and say that I never put more energy into the NLRB process than I should have. The reality is that unions must know that we shouldn't depend on the Board process to get us to a recognition process or a first contract. It must be more about how we use the Board as one of many strategies to get us there. If an employer commits to spending whatever it takes to discourage its employees, the final result just never wins a first contract. Some of us don't want to believe that. However, it's reality. It just keeps happening while we keep trying. I've filed hundreds of unfair labor practice charges having the Board finding merit to the vast majority. At times it does slow up an employer's union busting campaign which nominally increases the chances of winning an election. However, in those cases the employers did not have open wallets to spend on litigation or busting firms and their tactics. (Lots, but not endless.) In time I learned that I needed to pick my spots and mostly filed charges as a means of protecting workers from retaliation. That strategy in itself usually required a lot of resources including my time spent processing all of the charges and supporting evidence without counsel. Here is my point. The only significant solution to this problem must come from changing the way that we think and ACT. Economic action is a must. Changing the culture of the employer/employee relationship is necessary. Only strikes can address this issue in the way that we need it to change. Unions must (need to) act collectively and strategically to move the culture. Nothing else will ever get us back to the percentage of union representation that we were at. The employers have gotten too willing to spend money on the Board process which really is determined by politicians at the end of the day. ("Card check" may be the exception. However, that change, if ever, in legislation may only come with concessions to Labor Law.) With respect to the Teamsters...O'Brien wants to play this transparent, chest thumping, self-serving game of "Teamsters Versus Everyone". And that MAGA asshole ain't never gonna change.

Hey come on , O’Brien stopped robotics and automation! He got us AC ! , he stopped cameras in the trucks! He delivered a historic contract with reduced contributions to our pensions !
That’s what makes his partnership with Trump so natural! I mean after all Trump stopped tax on social security , didn’t he? Stopped tax on overtime , didn’t he? Hasn’t started any new wars , has he?
The lists of promises the two have made go on and on.
Americans loved to be told we are great! Teamsters love to be told we are tough!
So as long as the two of them keeping talking loud and making these claims people will cheer them.

The below NY Times article (click below link) talks about how Sean O'Brien's pal Mark Wayne Mullin increased his personal wealth tenfold since being elected to Congress; mostly through stock trading (including investing in companies he has inside information on as a member of various Congressional committees).

The article includes a photo of Mullin holding the rubber Spaldeen he bounces on the floor in the Capital building; reminds me of the character Humphry Bogart played in the 1954 movie "Caine Mutiny" - the paranoid Captain Queeg, who was relieved of command by his crew. Captain Queeg carried a handful of marbles in his hand 24/7.

I wonder how many other "Trump Pals" invested in Chevron, the only major player in Venezuelan oil, just before the takeover?
