Interesting that Pickle Robot Company is based in Charlestown, Mass. just a six minute walk from Local 25's Hall at 544 Main Street, Charlestown. I'm not suggesting this is anything but a coincidence.

Aw, c'mon! The International has always protected and created jobs. Anyone remember the National Master Freight contracts? Provided for sooooo many part time union members to be used. WITHOUT GUARENTEED HOURS! In other words, an employer could hire as many part time workers as it wanted to work spare boards with no guarantee of work. As an example, part-timers could work so little that they would not even be eligible for health benefits even though hourly contributions were made. Why did the union allow this? Let's say a barn needed twenty full time workers to operate appropriately. However, if that barn actually had 50 part-timers working occasionally only at the employer's will...but each member (full or part-time) had to pay dues regardless of hours worked. Well...you do the math. It was a gold mine for the union's that negotiated and their Executive Boards. Trust me...if O'Brien could have found a way to cause robots to pay dues it would have been even worse. He sucks!

This is what O'Brien said to the Wall Street Journal 9 months ago when UPS first announced the current round of closures and layoffs:

"Sean O'Brien, the Teamsters president, said UPS is obligated to create 30,000 Teamster jobs under the current contract. He said the union wouldn't object if UPS downsizes management but "UPS will be in for a hell of a fight" if it moves to eliminate Teamster jobs."

So what happened ? What did I miss? 30,000 new "Teamster jobs". really?
