Yeah! But who wrote the questions? Paff? Levin? Or Rainville?

THANK YOU FEARLESS SLATE FOR STANDING UP AND BEING READY TO TAKE ON THE OZ MACHINE!!!!!

Ron Carey got elected in 1991 and met the minimum number of IBT Convention delegates voting for his nomination. There were four candidates running for GP in 1991: R.V. Durham, Walter Shea, Lou Riga, and Ron Carey. Durham and Shea were competing "Old Guard" factions, and Riga was not well known and had no known history any different than the "Old Guard". When all nominations had been made and gaveled closed by the Election Officer conducting the nomination procedure, GST Weldon Mathis (he took over chairing the Convention from GP Billy McCarthy, due to McCarthy having health issues that limited his duties as Chair), opened the Convention floor (at the non-union hotel in Disney World) for each slate and their nominees to demonstrate their support for their candidates. An amazing thing happened. I don't recall the order of each slate's demonstration. The Durham and Shea slates made some noise from their seats. But when the Ron Carey Slate delegates paraded around the Convention hall with Ron Carey riding on the shoulders of the delegation, the other delegates watched; stunned. The Carey delegates shook the hall chanting: "Carey, right to vote!" again and again. It was truly awe inspiring. I know. I was there as an elected Local 504 delegate voting for the Ron Carey slate. Ron Carey won a majority of votes and commenced serious reform in the IBT. He did this against the odds. The campaign over 1991 was relentless.

History can and does repeat itself. The Fearless Slate are ready to stand up and fight to win. It will take hard work, but I thank these Teamsters for their commitment to the rank and file members.

I was there also, the difference is that Carey had been campaigning for well over a year and had a full slate . He also has committed delegates and a campaign manager with experience.

Watcher745: So are you saying that The Fearless Slate shouldn't bother to campaign on the very serious issues that the OZ Slate has ignored, covered up, and sold out the membership on?

Looks like Watcher is not saying that at all, seems like he is just pointing out the differences between the two campaigns.

It would be sad if the first election following the consent decree would be a white ballot no pun intended. It's even sadder to see the balless officers in this union curl up in the fetal position and remain silent. Thanks Brother Hooker you are a Teamster. Those throwing rocks need only look as far as the mirror.

There are lots of officers with serious dislike for SOB. No one knows whether or not they'll express that dislike in a secret ballot nominating convention.

Expressing your displeasure in a secret polling place doesn't really scream courage. These guys are collecting a check and working out of self interest. God help us all if these are the so called leaders of this once great union and are our hope for the future.
