Local 705 Takes a Stand: Mauser Strike

The union wants bosses to turn away immigration authorities unless they show a signed judicial warrant, but resistance is fierce.

When Sean O'Brien makes statements like he did to Sen. Josh Hawley about immigration, hes trashing thousands of teamsters like the group in the story. The union has lots of bargaining units like this 705 group and not just in California but all over the country. It would be fairer to those teamsters if the National union had the same policy as Local 705 has.

Right on Local 705! This is the workers’ solidarity that we need in the Teamsters!

Will our Union stand up and fight the divisive and massive attacks against labor being carried out by Trump/ MAGA? Will we stand in defense of, and solidarity with, our Brothers and Sisters being subjected to harassment, and so much worse by ICE terror?

We know where GP O’Brien stands on that question: O’Brien has publicly chosen which side he’s on; O’Brien is on the side of the divide and conquer racists.

Every Teamster contract proposal for a successor CBA should include the language that Local 705 and the Mauser bargaining unit members are demanding .

I wonder if Campos had to get permission to take a stand going against Trump policies from O’Brien? Would be the first time someone on the GEB took a stand for what’s right since Palmer did so over a year ago.

The Mauser workers have been striking for improved working conditions and contract language that would protect them from workplace immigration raids.

Why is Campos running with O'Brien? Some have said he never had much spine anyway.

Interesting and relevant piece of history regarding Sean O'Brien and the Mauser strike. It seems to have disappeared from the front page of the Teamsters.org website, even though it's among the longer ongoing Teamster strikes in the US. So, why isn't the ongoing Mauser strike prominently posted on the Teamster.org website along with other ongoing actions by Locals around the country?

In around 2011 (if my memory is correct), when O'Brien was President of Local 25, he hired an organizer to organize Boston area parking lot workers, many of whom are immigrant workers. As I recall, the organizer O'Brien hired was himself a parking lot worker and originally from Somalia, and O'Brien recognized the importance of hiring a capable, multi-lingual immigrant organizer that would be very helpful in that organizing effort. The organizing drive was successful, and when Local 251 organizer, Mike Simone, organized SP Plus Parking workers at TF Greene Airport in Warwick, RI, we looked to the success of Local 25 in winning a first contract for the SP Plus workers and it's successor employer LAZ Parking.

Maybe Local 25 members that read this can shed some light on what happened to that particular organizer. And how does O'Brien square his anti-immigrant talking points to appease his anti-immigrant allies in the Republican Party? Workers are workers deserving Union representation and Union support in their workplace regardless of being documented or undocumented. That's the Union's job and responsibility period.

This is the INTERNATIONAL Brotherhood of Teamsters isn’t it? We have brothers and sisters in Canada. We all work to pay our bills, we have this in common with all working people. The tiny minority who profits from our work have very little in common with us.

To support this basic protection for fellow workers should be a no brainer.

Mr. Magoo could care less. He's going to leave you all hanging.

And zero response from the IBT about what happened at the Mauser picket line. I guess they aren’t real Teamsters because they weren’t “Americans by Birth”.

I’ll bet some were born American but simply not white!!!
Disgusting! We call this a Brotherhood but most our leaders sit back and say nothing.

Where's Campos? His agent speaks and he doesn't. I guess he didn't get a hall pass from his daddy O'Brien. Gutless

It’s interesting that he didn’t even add a sentence in that statement.
