IRank and File Representation on Article 38 Change of Operations Committee: We, the undersigned members of Teamsters Local 162, formally request that the NMUPS Article 38 Change of Operations Committee for the Swan Island building shutdown and automation remodel include rank and file representation from each classification and shift affected by the changes that have already begun. We demand UPS allow no less than 2 members, at least one Part Time and one Full Time 22.3 Teamster, from each shift inside Swan Island to join the Change of Operations Committee. We also demand a minimum of 2 RPCD and Feeder Drivers each be allowed to join the Change of Operations Committee for negotiations of the Swan Island building remodel. We demand that UPS allow the members of the committee to freely share proposals with our members, so that we may make informed decisions on our collective career futures. We will not allow UPS to require Non-Disclosure Agreements or information blackouts of any kind. The decisions reached at this committee will have far-reaching impacts on hundreds of hard-working Teamsters and their families. We request Local 162 allow elections to be held for the minimum of 12 rank and file members of the various shifts and classifications affected by this change of operations. This process should be concluded in advance of the official formation of the Article 38 Change of Operations Committee, and the local shall make all efforts to organize our rank and file representation well ahead of the first official meeting between the Union and the Company. If Local 162 is unable to include direct rank and file representation on the Article 38 committee meeting with the UPS management counterpart, we request that the elected members form an advisory body which will deliberate over the proposals presented by UPS and bring counter-proposals for the affected members to vote upon. Additionally, meeting minutes from the Article 38 committee must be recorded and made available to all Local 162 UPS Teamsters promptly after each meeting. Nominations shall be open immediately upon ratification of this proposal at the regular general union meeting and be open for no more than two weeks hereafter. Nominations require the support of at least 5 members from the shift and classification they will be representing at Swan Island. If the minimum of 2 nominees cannot be found by this process, the local will confer with stewards from the respective shift and classification to identify members to be appointed to the committee. The election of rank and file committee members shall be run by the appropriate body within the IBT, with assistance from stewards in each affected shift and classification. Election results shall be announced in the general union meeting immediately following the meeting that ratifies this proposal. The body of rank and file member representation shall be empowered to survey members, hold regular meetings of affected Swan Island employees, and these meetings shall be open to all UPS employees within JC37’s jurisdiction.

200 22.3s and 90 positions available doesn't make sense. Can you please better explain?

There are about 200 of us and when they close the building they will only have spots for 90 of us, meaning 100 or so will possibly go part time

There is NOTHING you can do about UPS closing a building. This is a joke right. When the work comes back you go back. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

Yeah! You are right! This contract is historic! The lack of foresight was historic! The lack of real planning was historic! The PR campaign and fake practice picketing was historic!
When will we break into the 21st century and actually change our strategies? We need to hire experts in technology who can look to the future of automation to inform us just how robotics will change our future. We may not be able to stop facilities from closing or moving but we can negotiate minimum number of “ live” employees to be maintained. We have to stop acting tough and really get tough.

Thanks for supporting the company line Mr. T. We can't wait for you to negotiate another pension cut. It's enivitable. Ask the longshoremen if you can negotiate over automation. At a minumum we work on the machines, retraining and reclassification of our members, and severances based on years of service just as a start.

I think somebody is just a little sour for having to cough up a $2,000 donation last week in order to be on the right list.

Has nothing to do with SOB or Trump. We have been getting weaker and weaker by the day. Amazon is taking over. We don't have the resources to take that company on. It's sad
