I had heard a similar story. That Ken Paff asked them not to run as to avoid jeopardizing their relationship with OZ.

DSA has numbers but I guess they really take a lot of orders from TDU ? I don’t know why but they do . Also don’t know the full story it’s all second hand stuff as I don’t really talk much to any of em - Tony does though but only about shut down layoff stuff

For all intents and purposes, the PDX DSA and TDU are essentially the same organization.

This is the latest hub to be closed since the passage of the new Teamsters contract in 2023, which union officials falsely described as a "historic" victory.

There’s Davison looking serious as the flagship hub in his local gets obliterated by technological changes

We are witnessing the elimination of day shift 2.0. UPS makes an announcement, or in this case its plans are leaked thereby forcing the union to react to an ever-growing body of evidence, and then Local 162 steps in to facilitate the layoffs, the "temporary closure" of Swan Island and the elimination of hundreds of jobs. Even in Ben Vedus's first response to the crisis we see this -- no fight back, no talk of filing a grievance over the technological clauses, no bargaining to stop the closure -- "If interested in moving please contact your Full-time Supervisor or Local 162." Remarkable. July 1st is the last day that any bargaining unit members will be in the building, at the latest. Local 162 has months to stymie these plans, in fact they might've even had a chance to grieve them and win at a national panel under the technology clause, thereby setting some sort of precedent (even grieving and losing at panel would send a message to UPS), but no, right out of the gate they have chosen total and complete facilitation of the layoffs and shutdown. Not the slightest bit of resistance. As I have said before, the loss of Swan Island means the end of the Davison regime, which is a high price for the members to pay for the ouster of one corrupt union official who puts his daughter on the payroll and collects several union salaries. But, ironically, it will prove his undoing, and I probably won't be around for that implosion. I, for one, have finished my activism with Teamster circles, and I wish all my coworkers the best. They voted for this contract, many of them hated me for pointing out its myriad of flaws, I fought to attempt to save day shift. I will not fight to save Swan Island. Of course, this is written with the news fresh and my spirits low; therefore, I leave room open for a spark of enthusiasm.

You and others can and should file a grievance based on the "new" language, maybe a group grievance. If the local refuses to take it, file with the NLRB, failure to represent. Or just walk away and let them win, like they expect.

Thing is Barry455 we are still in shock. Give us, and Tony, a few days to think. I love my friend and he needs time. He’s been crying from the rooftops this would happen and preparing and fighting since January 2024 when he formed ITOC with Howard Williamson- the immediate rollover by the union the whole thing stinks

We are witnessing the elimination of Swan Island as history repeats itself: UPS announces a plan—or in this case, it leaks—and once again, our union reacts instead of acts. Local 162, rather than resisting layoffs, appears to be facilitating them. Ben Vedus’s initial response exemplifies this passive approach:"If interested in moving, please contact your Full-Time Supervisor or Local 162."No griev

I had started the process of collecting signatures for an Article 6, Section 4 grievance. Matt Konz informed me that the Local does not intend to file such a grievance as full automation is already existing technology in the UPS Network. So, unless there are humanoid robots (his words, yes) they will not grieve it.

It is becoming clear to even Davison's former supporters that we have been sold out. His career ends with the closure of Swan Island. A very high price to pay for the ouster of one corrupt man.
