    John Palmer Announcement

    Dear Teamster Sisters and Brothers,

    Having experienced two and a half years of General President Sean O'Brien’s tumultuous presidency, I am announcing my candidacy for Teamsters national office in the 2026 election for officers. I invite all Teamsters to join with me in forming an opposition slate to send Sean O'Brien back to the truck. Let’s put an end to the false promises, business friendly unionism, and concessionary back-room deals.

    This administration rode into power on a wave of excitement generated by our members' desires and frustrations. We were promised a more engaged leadership and a more militant union. What we have received so far is a PR blast furnace of misinformation and betrayal. The coalition created between TDU reformers and old guard officials has in effect bought off opposition by handing out a few cushy jobs to some TDU members at the marble palace. This coalition has successfully silenced all criticism from these so-called reformers. Fear of retaliation rules the day at local unions across the country. Leaders fear trusteeships if they fall out of line. O’Brien’s attacks on dissenters are well known. He has threatened and continues to threaten members of his own GEB.

    In addition:
    • He publicly embarrassed himself and the Teamsters in challenging a US Senator to a fight. His childish behavior is beneath the dignity of the office;
    • He negotiated reduced hourly contributions of West Coast UPS Teamsters’ pensions while members in the fund he manages received increases all from the same employer and contract;
    • He has allowed AI, AGI, and automation to run wild through many of our workplaces. His grand speeches and fist pounding do nothing to aid the 10,000 laid-off Teamsters at UPS;
    • He walked out and abandoned Yellow Freight Teamsters;
    • He attempted to kick the Graphic Communications Teamsters out of our union;
    • He failed to support and engage our rail Teamsters during their latest contract;
    • He attacked the Machinists Union and encouraged Teamster locals to raid Machinists’ shops.
    This has all culminated in his presence at the anti-union, anti-worker Republican national convention, kissing the ring of a man that scabbed a picket line, failing to pay workers, discriminating against people of color as a landlord, falsely accusing five black men in New York of murder, orchestrating an insurrection against the United States, dodging the draft, and appointing Union busters from the Jones Day law firm to create the most anti-union Labor Board in history. It’s naive to believe that these folks at the RNC are going to help us in any way, shape, form, or manner. We have successfully estranged ourselves from the rest of the labor movement through the actions of one man. Should we really go out and seek more enemies right now?

    It has been said you judge a tree by the fruit it bears; we should not take one more bite of this sour apple. Let’s put an end to the failed and phony policy of bluster and PR. We are better than this. Our members deserve better than this. Please help us in building a truly unified and reformative union where all the members’ interests are served.

    In Solidarity,

    John Palmer

    Vice-President at Large*

        Good Luck John.

        There are plenty of Teamsters unhappy with the IBT leadership. But, many are afraid to speak up. IBT retaliation is a real thing.

        Key is getting Teamsters to vote. So many Teansters have been systematically denied a voice and they are apathetic.

        Looking forward to seeing who will join your slate.

        Please put together a comprehensive platform for returning the Teansters to the members.

          Is this a joke?

          I have as many decades in the Teamsters as you. Where we differ is that you have no qualifications for anything. You are a TDU retread yourself. Every time you ran for office in your local year members overwhelmingly did not support you or vote for you. You latched on in 2016 and got lucky and since you were such a TDU guy They let you join for another term. You have retreat rights to go back to ABF, but you won’t do it because you like sitting at home and not working. You’re perfectly content to make $80,000 a year to go to two meetings.

          The members site think this is a great idea. God bless them, all 10 of them. You are definitely Not The Answer my friend. We do not need more 70-year-old white guys.

            I think you should run Sam. You could be a Central Region VP. Out west, we need to get Randy Cammick in there. How about EE from 952.

              My local returns my dues payments, marking the checks as VOID. They've done this for 7 years, and the IBT has backed that up, claiming I am "not a member" and "not eligible" to rum for or hold office. Local 100 won't even allow me to serve a a union steward for my fellow motion picture drivers.

              Local 100 has in their efforts to deny me work opportunities, changed the hiring hall rules several times in the past 7 years. They've eliminated seniority rights. They've eliminated the right of local workers to work ahead of out of state workers. They've denied us the right to elect a steward, appointing the Captain (the appointed supervisor) to also serve as steward.

              In 2019, when I spoke with Fred Zuckerman about the Local refusing my dues and the IBT (Hoffa and Hall) backing that play. Zuckerman said at that time it was illegal. But, since he was elected GST, he has not taken any corrective action.

              In 2021, I filed an election protest when they refused my dues and the Election Supervisir pointed out that they had to accept my dues. (ESD 136) But, in Jan 2022, they claimed the Election Supervisor had no jurisdiction and resumed refusing my dues.

              I've filed several NLRB charges, but the NLRB has told me that the Union is a private organization and they do not have to allow me membership. ???

              I have never thought of my union as a private club able to deny membership based on race, age, religion, etc...

              Anyway, I would be proud to put my name next to John Palmer's, but at this point it would just be another fight and a distraction from his campaign for workers.

              Cammack is a liar, a sell-out, and has undermined Carey ( who he ran with) Hoffa ( who he ran with) and anyone else who helped him, saved him, or made him look good. A true whore by the definition of the word.

            Oh come on Mr. Teamster. I like your posts and we had some good repour here, but John has fought the good fight all along. He joined TDU and quit out of frustration then went back (he told me on the phone). Mr. Palmer is very genuine. There's plenty of Teamsters that have pushed away from TDU and John is no exception. He joined the E-Board with high expectations and when they weren't met, he made his objections known. Many of us here are "TDU retreads". Anytime you have an organization that breaks from the norm for monetary gain, you have to call it out. John has done just that. He is no push over.

            People like O'Brien and Zuckerman are opportunists. They kissed Hoffa's behind for years and when the time was right for them, they shifted to suit themselves. John Palmer has never done any of that.

              Where are the rest of the stand up guys in the GEB.? Are there others willing to stand up? I give the guy credit for being a man. At least he's launched a shot across the bow. C'mon the rest of you need to get in the game.

              Thats a good question, where are they. Are we to believe their all Trump fans. Find me an officer in the west that likes what OZ did with the pension at UPS. Delegate votes are secret ballot. No offense to Palmer, who's got alot of guts, but he's probably already got the delegates he needs based on the fact that his name isn't O'Brien.

                      Got to hand it to Palmer he's been a consistent opponent since at least the UPS contract. His timing for announcing couldn't be better, he's getting plenty of attention.

                        But Dana, he was ball washing for O’Brien just a year and a half ago. I would think you would see that he is an opportunist a d was all over this administrations nuts a short time ago.

                          I think it’s hilarious that you want to put your money behind Palmer. He is Just 67 years old never won anything except for he was one of the weakest links in a Teamsters United campaign. He was all over Sean O’Brien‘s nuts now he don’t like Sean O’Brien. it seems like he just decides who he likes by the minute.
