Thankfully Marky and Zucky came to talk to us at Swan Island. They didn’t meet with any of the affected day shift members or mention layoffs but I’m sure this photo op on preload will terrify the company to stop the job cuts!

I can report that a member on the day shift found some BAs sitting in the break room, they had him fill out a form and said a few things he did not understand. I am very confident that this process is moving ahead smoothly. Great to see the BAs actively engaging the membership on each shift, using their ability to go around the facility during operations, and explaining the situation to each member so that they know exactly what is happening.

Circulate and get the word out. We need to begin to organize and educate folks on the robot revolution. Volume is being diverted to automated hubs from Portland Day Sort. The local stuff will fall onto my shift, Twilight, where the layoffs will likely be the hardest. April will be a cruel month to paraphrase T.S. Eliot (not sure if it will be the cruelest month; I am sure UPS has far more in store.)

UPS is laying off 100+ employees in Baltimore County. Here's why.

Just the beginning. The goal is to eliminate day sorts, and entire hubs. Up to 80% of the unionized workforce faces a possible layoff under this “historic” contract. No layoff protections negotiated by the wee little bald wizard of OZ

Displaced union workers will have “bumping rights,” meaning they can displace non-union employees.
