All of the GEB members should do the same and refuse to meet with him! It’s wrong to even allow Trump in our building!

No bullshit from Shawn Fain: "Trump is a scab".

If that statement had been made by Sean O'brien I'd have some respect for him.

Letter from Local 162 member Tony Cochran UPS to VP Davison Pres. Local 162.

      President Davison,

On January 30th 2024, PBS will air the documentary “Democracy on Trial.” This will provide an in-depth examination of Mr Trump’s conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, and when that failed, to violently overthrow the US government on January 6th 2020 by sending an armed mob to kill members of congress and the Vice President.

It is my understanding that President O’Brien is requiring members of the General Executive Board to associate with, for the purposes of a possible presidential endorsement, Mr Trump, who has recently invoked Hitlerian notions of blood purity (https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/trump-evokes-hitler-poison-blood-new-hampshire-rally-1234931357/), been found liable for sexual abuse (https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-e-jean-carroll-judge-in-short-testimony-2024-1), been found guilty of defrauding the state of New York of tax revenue (https://apnews.com/article/trump-fraud-lawsuit-explainer-judge-business-empire-5e37f1468bd8ef63fff2e284886e3b8c), personally and through surrogates used the office of the presidency to orchestrate attacks on Black election workers in Georgia (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/georgia-election-worker-terrorized-by-threats-after-2020-election-2023-12-13/), called his political enemies “vermin” on Veterans Day (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/12/trump-rally-vermin-political-opponents/), and so much more.

The list of egregious, horrific actions and statements beyond reasonable discourse by the former president is far too long to detail in an email meant to relay a pithy, urgent message:

Stay away from Mr Trump. Any meeting with him only legitimizes and empowers him in his bid to become a “dictator” on “day one” in 2025.

By acquiescing to President O’Brien’s unconstitutional—it violates the IBT constitution—requirement that GEB members knowingly associate with Mr Trump, everyone in attendance will become complicit in President O’Brien’s morally rotten, unethical and anti-union association with Mr Trump (again, a man who sent an armed crowd to kill members of congress and his own Vice President). Perhaps President O’Brien finds something in Mr Trump he admires? Totalitarianism is becoming normalized in the Teamsters, and I am wondering if President O’Brien asked Mr Trump for some tips on cultivating personality cults.

Whatever his reasons for meeting with the former president, President O’Brien cannot compel you to associate with Mr Trump. In fact, you have an ethical imperative—and an obligation under the IBT Constitution—to not associate with Mr Trump.

Solidarity—against all tyrants, big and small,

      Tony Cochran

Amid the commendable expressions of outrage over the disgraceful decision to conduct a captive audience meeting for the GEB with Trump, and the admirable and articulate expressions of defiance from VP Palmer, one should not overlook the equally inexplicable invitation that reportedly has been extended to Nikki "I'm proud to have been a union buster" Haley. If anyone can match Trump's disdain for workers, it's her. During her tenure as Governor of SC, she proudly and repeatedly proclaimed her opposition to unions, going so far as to state "I don't want jobs if they're going to be union jobs...we don't need to taint the water." She recorded ads opposing the IAM's attempt to organize a Boeing facility and boasted of the fact that SC was the least unionized state in the country ("we don't have unions in SC because we don't need them" and don't want them). Whatever meaningless excuse O'Brien offers for inviting Trump, cannot justify an invitation to Haley, who probably has never received a single vote from a Teamster member. See, hufpost.com/entry/nikki-haleys-union-buster for more.

Thank you comrade Smith. These Republicans, Haley, Trump, Tim Scott's of the world have waged war on workers.

Just for context, Nikki is also a huge POS

Nikki Haley’s political career has been great for corporate executives and campaign donors. For everyone else, particularly workers and the poor, it’s been terrible.

Trump's GOP is not our father's GOP. Back then you could find a handful of pro union Republicans. Those days are over.
