Exactly what I thought. If the Union came in with a 20 dollar an hour proposal for part timers, the Company would come back at 18. No way the Company is prepared to pay part timers 20 dollars let alone 25 dollars

I barely can stomach the idea of ratifying at $23 or $24, and $25 base pay for part-timers is still well below a living wage in almost every major city in the US. You can get a job at Amazon or Target with higher starting wages. That's not acceptable in any possible way

It’s part time work and there is no such thing as a “livable wage” and if there was it’s not the responsibility of any company to be forced to pay that which can not be defined.

I can define a living wage just fine; hand-waving it away is facetious; and companies pay what they are forced to pay by a number of factors, including market forces but also what the organized workers can demand through collective bargaining- you know, the purpose of a union.

The companies proposal is an opening proposal. Its a low ball offer by definition, when they change it the other side can claim victory. Don't be distracted from the unions goals. It would help if we could see our own union proposals. What did the union propose for a part-time starting rate?

At any rate this company proposal is made to lower union expectations. Don't fall for it. In fact it could easily been leaked on purpose.
