    UPS & Cameras

Someone (Faust) is posting misinformation on in-ward facing cameras. Faust claims the IBT agreed to in-ward facing cameras that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Here are the facts per FreightWaves (below)

In addition, UPS will be barred from taking disciplinary action based on technology. The Teamsters have stopped installation of driver-facing cameras and must prove that they be shut off. “UPS cannot use data from any type of technology to discipline drivers,” O’Brien said.

In a statement, UPS said that “we are pleased that we are making steady progress with the Teamsters on a wide array of topics.” All contract language is subject to ratification by the 340,000 rank-and-file Teamsters

?? Let’s wait a minute here ……..”the teamsters have stopped the installation of driver facing cameras “ AND “must prove that they be shut off”

HOW DO YOU PROVE YOU SHUT OFF A CAMERA THAT THE TEAMSTERS HAVE STOPPED FROM BEING INSTALLED ?

I’ve been very critical of this administration and I’ll speak out when I don’t agree with them and that’s been a lot. I don’t like when people spread information without any facts or articles to back it up.

The cameras will remain and they will be able to record drivers (members) for training purposes and can't be used to discipline drivers.

They cant discipline drivers, but since when do Teamsters believe management? They actually currently have the ability to watch drivers.

      This is a concession.

The video of the webinar is there. The cameras remain in with the ability to record drivers for training purposes.

So let me get this straight. Management will be able to surveil Members 24/7? It's not about just discipline, it's about having a stupid camera watching your every move. Can we say Big Brother? How many Managers will be spying on the female drivers??

O'Brien's announcement on the 7th was pretty clear. The TA was no cameras and not for training purposes either.

Faust is saying cameras are staying yet he/she can’t post an accurate link or YouTube link. Cameras are gone and he/she is going to eat their words.

I get he wants to slander them but why not wait for something factual. It’s not like there isn’t anything out there.

The devil is in the details. My concern would be with the 45 day negotiation on tech like last mile delivery. Especially with a 5 year contract.

I agree, ups will corrupt that language as they always do . Then they will violate it and we will wait for arbitration.

                      Cameras are staying.

Nobody has disputed that the outward facing cameras will now be an enshrined right in our contract for the company to install. With inward facing cameras, while O'Brien says they are to be "disabled", he also explicitly stated the tentative agreement will allow the use of "sensors" facing the driver for "training purposes". The sensor on the Lytx Drive Cam systems is a camera. That's how it detects your seatbelt not being on, you being distracted while driving, etc. So while it may not record on a regular basis like the outward facing camera, the inward facing camera will obviously continue to be used. Cameras are just "sensors".

This tentative agreement permits the continued harassment of drivers based solely upon technology and presents a venue where an item can be observed on camera (live streamed even), and a supervisor can just lie about having seen it in person. You cannot disprove them, because if you lie you are terminated. The only victory with cameras in a TA is their complete removal from all equipment, otherwise harassment will continue, business as usual.

Having read the entire thread, the IBT needs to clarify, as we've seen recently their way to quick to take credit.

The definition of sensors would be helpful, UPS is notorious for double talk. There may be a sensor that has virtually the same capability as a “ camera” .
