    Judge Jones' Undemocratic Power

When is TDU going to finally admit that the government oversight of the IBT is undemocratic? Judge Barbara S. Jones is currently the Independent Review Officer for the IBT’s Independent Disciplinary Office AND the Election Appeals Master. Based on these two positions - paid for through dues money - she has the final say in all disciplinary matters (regardless of the facts or what the GEB rules) AND the final say in IBT elections. No matter how one spins it, this is NOT democracy … it is the absolute and undemocratic rule over our union by the US government, and has been since 1989. Of course, as Ken Paff is well aware, TDU benefits from Judge Jones’ rulings … and, as Paff also knows, TDU is not subject to Jones’ oversight or the discipline she is capable of handing out.

The oversight is absolutely necessary. Thanks to Barbara Jones and all the big whigs in Washington like Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Kevin McCarthy and Devin Nunez who vouched for your corrupt hero Rome Aloise, he was not expelled from the Teamsters on the original charges and slapped with a 24 month suspension.

To bad Rome couldn't just enjoy his time off and gave the government the right to finally expell his sorry ass.

Rome should have been expelled for cutting a sweetheart deal with Southern Wines and Spirits. Did you forget he showed up to Minnesota, interfered in their negotiations and forced them to take $1 less than the company had already agreed to?

That's when Rome was awarded those tickets to the Play Boy Mansion for the Super Bowl. He was also awarded World Series tickets to the Giants to watch Tim Lincecum and Maddison Bumgardner who were in their prime win the WS. Oh and lets not forget when he got NBA finals tickets to watch his Golden State Warriors too. All for negotiating a sham contract.

How about when he entered into bid rigging with his frat brother at Grand Fund Charles Burtucio to secure a more expensive medical plan. Didn't he fly his cheap ass and many other hofficers to golf in luxury courses including one in Ireland?

How about using his power to accommodate his nephew with a do nothing job at Costco after negotiating insulting wages and a pension that topped out at $1.75? I bet you got more in pension just for kissing Rome's ass.

I can go on and on. Rome is a cancer and still bringing down more hofficers.

You know the shit Sean O'Brien would get away with if there was no oversight? O'Brien is more dangerous than Rome ever was!

Stop blaming worthless TDU for Rome's fuck-ups! Rome couldn't stop stepping on his own little dick!!!

I did not ask the question about Jones so you could have a forum to attack me (or Rome, for that matter). But, then again, I see that this is how you operate. Pick on somebody else.

I had to provide an example of why the federal oversight exists and is needed. If it didn't, a cancer like Rome would still be here. Without the oversight O'Brien would go after all those who oppose him and attack them.

Setting aside any particular situation we can all agree there has to be accountability. That can take different forms, one that's often been talked about but never agreed to is a truly independent Ethics Board.

Now we literally have the government telling us who we can talk to and who we can't. No other major Union in this country has that kind of government intrusion. You can stress the need for oversight while recognizing the undemocratic nature of government supervision.

No other union has been as corrupt as ours, not even the new corrupt UAW.

Faust clearly is a Rome hater, so be it. However, not one thing in his post has any relationship to the truth. Rome is banned, so if the truth matters, read Jone's decisions ( which are online) and you will see that Faust can't seem to let the facts get in the way of the bs...

The question I posted was about TDU's claim of being "democratic" while refusing to admit that Judge Jones' positions as IRO and Appeals Master makes her all-powerful, thus, undemocratic. Faust, whoever he/she is, seems to think that authoritarianism is the best way to control members who allegedly broke the rules (Rome?) or those who might break the rules (O'Brien). Authoritarianism is, be definition, anti-democratic; if a member or organization supports it, they are undemocratic.

There is a difference between fighting corruption and actually becoming part of the corruption by just milking the union for employment. These jobs have cost us millions of dollars and have become intrenched in our union. I agree that an independent ethics board would serve us as well or actually better.

If we ran a clean house none of this would have ever happened nor would any of this be needed. Union busters feast on our history of corruption.

The Teamsters are not ready to police themselves. Can you imagine what the control freak in power would do? He has been purging anyone that has an opinion or didn't support him.

What was stated was “ A truly independent ethics board” not a government entity that will never leave because there is a huge payment of salary involved.
We originally banned only members who were involved with the mob from association with members. Now it has become a political weapon in some cases.

Who would appoint that independent ethics board? It would not work and they would be biased.
