100,000 Newly Organized?

Yesterday, the IBT issued a campaign-styled press release proclaiming that under OZ 100,000 new members joined the Teamsters, and that this is twice the number the "old complacent guard" organized in 10 years. Aside from being very immodest (aren't we all brothers and sisters?), it's not true. How do I know this? In the last paragraph the press release states that the IBT represents 1.3 million hard-working men and women. This is the exact number of workers that the IBT represented when Hoffa left office. I can only conclude that the press release is either a bold-face lie, or OZ may have organized 100.000 new members, but they also lost 100.000 members. SMH

O'Brien is lying. Department of Labor documents, signed by Zuckerman tell the real story which is about 96,000 members less than what he's saying. Check out this earlier thread with verified information on OZ's organizing.

lots of double and triple counting UPS sign ups, they will count a UPS worker who gets laid off and brought back as two new members, and the “100000” number does not account for members lost, we likely have only grown by less than 10,000 members total. Obviously a ploy by OZ to smash fearless.

If they cared so much about organizing new members, why do they refuse to set bargaining dates with the IBT organizers?

You're giving them more credit then they deserve when you say 10,000, according to government LM2's the actual total is just over 3,000.

Those are not just claims. Check out the Department of Labor LM-2 forms. They were tuned in by the IBT by law. The link is in my post above.

"100,000 New Members" was a big theme in Vegas. The convention had little to do with the truth but the 100,000 new members was BS by about 95,000. No body wants to mention the Emperor has no cloths. We'll have 200,000 new members by the next convention but I'll bet the LM-2 looks the same if not less. TDU even happy to promote this blatant lie.
