It seems that California, in particular Local 986, would be a great area for the beginning of a grassroots reform movement. The exposed corruption along with the apparent total neglect of the Local's membership should make it ripe for a member driven movement. Shit like this went on way too long for SOB to have not had a clue. OH, WAIT! "Local autonomy". Right Sean? (Which in code actually means support me and I won't hold you accountable for anything unless my hand is forced.) Here, I have an idea. Send Roco Calo to 986 as the trustee. Bahahahahahahaha! I think you're right, 986 is "ripe for a reform movement".

It's really too bad that there isn't some kind of group or organization that has people ready to train rank and file members on how to be leaders and run for office. They could also offer training and assistance for what happens after they win election. Of course that organization or group would have to be willing to take on the national union leadership in the case of locals like 986, that are aligned with the current General President.

Sort of an organization that could be based on democracy, transparency and power for working teamsters. I would suggest that all leadership and staff of such a group have significant histories as working Teamsters. Just a thought.

X-TDUer: Agreed. That group would need to be "willing" and prepared to take on the national leadership. I'd be very surprised to find out that there is nobody out there with "significant histories" willing to at least offer guidance. An understanding of Local by-laws as well as the IBT Constitution would be necessary. Organizing skills would be most paramount for sure along with a willingness to prepare for the long hill.
