    Teamsters international Facebook page

Saw this posted today, makes alot of sense!

As I read of the lay offs plans UPS has ( they always have a plan) it occurred to me to post a saying that an old adversary told me ,

“Money as the goal of collective bargaining brings to mind an old saying of mine.
$50 an hour x 0 hours is still zero”

I give credit to John Murphy a Hoffa vice president .

The average UPS teamster only gets 5 times in his or her career to actually have some say in their working conditions. This is why contract language is as important if not more so then monetary compensation. Raises in wages are important , raises in benefit plans are equally as important, in some instances more important. Planning and discussion about the next contract should start now. Ask questions at union meetings , real questions not political “jabs” . Learn how your health plans work and your pension plan.
Educated yourselves on how language affects your everyday working conditions. UPS is a master of disregarding language through loopholes or by challenging what the language means through endless arbitrations or panel cases that can go on until the next contract.
Ask your local to start contract surveys now two years before the next contract. Ask for contract meetings or seminars to start now. Form contract committees to discuss just what is needed in the next contract. It may sound strange but money may not be the biggest concern.

Beware of either side trying to push through a settlement without reading the “ fine print” . Educate yourselves on the real issues that will enable you to get to your retirement with a viable pension and health plans.

    Start now.

Get ahead of the " Brown Out" before the non- disclosure forms are sent to those that represent you and your livelihoods

Makes sense to start talking about the contract and get the proposals out in the open ! Nick is right start the discussion with plenty of time before they put in those NDA’s , they are nothing but a “ Brown out”

Five year agreements only benefit the company.
