An RC has been filed but the election has not been held. The case is "open".

When an R petition is filed with a Region of the NLRB a hearing on the matter is scheduled IF the parties can't stipulate to the conditions of an election. If a stip agreement is not reached a Regional Director will either direct an election for an appropriate unit or the union can disagree with the RD's decision regarding the appropriateness of the unit and the RD will pitch (dismiss) the petition. That happens in pretty short order. Hearings on the matter are "fact finding " and "non adversarial" in nature. But, trust me, if the IBT raises issues as to the appropriateness of the unit...they have taken an adversarial position. To be frank, if a demand for recognition was not agreed upon it has become adversarial. Hee, hee!

You can't sneak a union in. Where's their campaign? I wish them well but this looks weak and pathetic.

Is this an in-house union??? If so, they operate terribly at their best. Divisions and conflicts within start to form very quickly. Ugghhhh!

I don't know if they're being represented by an outside union or if they're forming an association.

Well, by the page displayed above it appears as if an election has been directed by the Board Region for union representation. "Department with IBT Staff council" is confusing.

I wish them well, what does it say about the quality of our IBT organizers if they lose?

Nonstarter: That’s a very good question?

It's a good question. Typically, most International Organizers do not have a lot of experience. Same can be said about other International's Organizers. Even though most have had a certain amount of training (which is helpful) many don't have the experience of going through many campaigns. MOST have never been through their own campaign. MOST OF ALL they are human. Many react just like workers that go through a trial such as this one. Some will flip for promises. Some will flip out of fear. Not exclusively, Teamster have always hired some rank and filers. Many are not even aware of the boss's campaign tactics that employers use during the campaign because they have already been members since being hired into an established unit. SEIU and HERE hire many organizers. They are almost always very young with no previous experience with unions and with very little life experience. Sooooo, they act like humans. If they have a chance on being successful it will take some experienced and dedicated leadership. I hope that they can hang on!!

Non Starter I've known a few former Organizers from the International. They say it's always been a very toxic work environment.
