Zuckerman to retire after UPS contract putting an end to the OZ/TDU alliance

The story of Fred Zuckerman retiring from the Teamsters after the UPS negotiations is being openly discussed.

Insiders are saying Sean O'Brien is grooming TDU hater Lindsay Dougherty to take over Zuckerman's ST position.

Many at TDU seem to believe that after Zuckerman retires, O'Brien will end the alliance with TDU.

    Here's "BurnedbyO'Brien"s comment from 2/1

Many Teamsters in the film industry are nepo Teamsters, including Lindsay Dougherty. She got her start because her daddy ran the local in Detroit and was able to slide her onto a production there. She then used her daddy's coat tails to continue her very short career as a Dispatcher in LA before using her daddy's connections to get her a job as a BA with 399, which covers mostly drivers, which she never was. It was also her daddy's connection to Local 25 and O'Brien over the years that got her where she is in the IBT. You can also look at the history of the Coli's and the history of nepotism in that local, along with its ties to the film industry. 817 and the O'Donnell's. The industry is full of it and qualifications don't seem to matter.

I don’t think Fred will retire until next election. That being said if Sean puts Lindsay as the Forum Home the board will split. There isn’t even 10k members in the movie industry

She doesn’t hate TDU, she needs TDU members. TDU is over anyway. Destroyed from the inside.

Let's hope the splits come soon. A lot of people are not happy.

Oh she hates TDU and that is a fact.

Ken Paff and David Levin who has never been a rank-and-file Teamster destroyed TDU.

Ken Paff is also a big part of the reason why TDU persisted throughout the years. Which goes to show how important it is for the members not to allow poor decisions to be made. I'll never understand how Paff came to support the O'Brien partnership, but we obviously won't be getting any do-overs. As much as TDU irritates me, without them, there is no opposition in Teamsters politics. Not to mention the members are already demoralized after 25 years of Hoffa. 95% are checked out. If Sean delivers a mediocre UPS contract, then breaks up with TDU when Fred retires, it will absolutely devastate this union. It would be a blow from which we probably will not recover.

While I agree with some of the above, TDU does provide great workshops and education about members rights, however, they did vote out the Members Bill of Rights and most of their steering committee was hired by OZ. Not sure how you oppose when your pay check is provided by the opposition! I agree that the Hoffa years were devastating to our union, if memory serves me right weren’t Sean and Fred part of the Hoffa administration? Because they got burned, now they are reformers worthy of TDU support? Maybe a win was more valuable than principles to TDU. As expected, we want to know. Maybe we should email TDU and ask why? Whether you agree with what I said here, at least I was able to voice my thoughts. To whoever, thanks! I feel better.

TDU was part of the Carey coalition in the 90s. They are part of the OZ coalition now. You don't need to be "the opposition" all the time, particularly when the platform you support is in office. Then the hard work needed by the Union needs to get done and the best ideas and leaders show up. OZ is on record that the coalition will last for a long time.

Even when a TDU-backed slate is in power I would still hope for TDU to act as a kind of opposition. People have to be held accountable. TDU still sought to do this even under Carey. The question is whether they'll still do it now.

I can understand the need to maintain a unified front going into contract negotiations, assuming UPS will seize on any perceived weakness. But some of the stuff that OZ has done has thrown up serious red flags that no one seems to want to talk about out loud.

It started with removing the Rank and File Bill of Rights. But I was also really disappointed with how they handled the firing of Emily Butt as an organizer, and how they appear to have no interest in actually organizing part-timers. Then there was the rail contracts, which were a disaster -- O'Brien wouldn't even verbally defend the right to strike.

Now they're asking the members of the rank-and-file committee that's going to sit in on contract negotiations to sign non-disclosure agreements, which completely defeats their purpose. I really want this administration to succeed, but TDU is asking me to overlook too much.

Are you serious? I'm having a hard time buying that, being able to tell members what's going on in negotiations is why their there in the first place. I need more information on that one.

Holy Shit, that didn't take long. Sorry I doubted you Dudeman44. I'm speechless, they don't understand the purpose of R&F Committee's.

So far two locals have told O'Brien they will inform members after each round of negotiations.

SOB and Zuck were not burned. SOB saw the results of the last election and knew he had to jump ship and created a constructive discharge. Had zuckerman not been such a privileged lil white boy, he would of been on the GEB. Make no mistake, these guys are not reformers, they are just mad at the world.
