The TDU website reported: “The right to strike over deadlocked grievances is a powerful tool. But it has never been used until Sean O’Brien pulled the trigger this week. When UPS deadlocked a series of grievances, the IBT issued 72-hour strike notices in Denver, Toledo, and Louisville."

Brother Allen: Thanks for telling it like it is and has been regarding mid contract grievance strikes. TDU as quoted in the above paragraph, is now engaging in O'Brien's propaganda. The National Master Freight Agreement has included the right to strike in the past, and that right has been used successfully long before O'Brien was a Local 25 member. This has been true of numerous Teamster CBA's in other jurisdictions as well. I recall a strike and extension of picket lines involving Maine, Local 340, that occurred mid contract in a master agreement covering bakery drivers, that was reported to JC10 delegates by then Local 340 Principal Officer, Bob Piccone. And TDU characterizing O'Brien's 72 hour strike notice as "Sean O'Brien pulled the trigger this week", is sounding more and more like what has become par for the course in this era of false narratives.

The CBA between Local 559 and Super Valu contained a provision that allowed for a party to take "economic action" when the other party did not comply with a grievance settlement. It was an extremely powerful provision. Article 9,1, C.

The International is developing a reputation for the Fake Strike. That reputation will not serve us well either with allies or enemies.

Totally agree!! Why would any company believe us when we speak of striking them?

Corporate unionism at it's worst, as TDU always said of whoever was in power; Talk Tough Settle Short.

As I understand it a new unit got a first contract as a result so it was'nt Fake and certainly worth the effort. More creative leadership might find a way to deal with the real issues at UPS, which are basically the same issues as before the historic contract. Amazon Christmas strike, now that was a fake strike.
