I totally love the agitation. This guy is good. I would encourage more specifics as a means of being even more effective. Specifics tend to resonate much better with the intended audience. The same goes for you Mr. Hooker. Generalities can only go so far.

This is a wacky idea, but what if there was an internal advocacy group for Teamsters that advocated for rank and file members...they could even come up with a list of demands around union democracy....and maybe after years and years of organizing they could elect leaders who actually cared about the memberhsip and not about maintaining their own power at all costs. I guess the only pitfall I can foresee is if they became co-opted by the very people they were trying to get rid of...and became just as obsessed with maintaining their own power as their "old guard" opponents.

Probably just a stupid idea...

Good job Brother Hooker! All Teamster members that are elected or appointed to office or Union staff positions, should consider their positions as Union employees as being temporary. They should recognize that they are first, rank and file members that have been entrusted with the duties to represent the members, in our common struggle for decent working conditions, wages and benefits. And they should take their IBT Constitutional oath of obligation seriously and never lose sight of the fact that it is the members that put them in office (either directly by rank and file vote or appointed by those that have been elected by a vote of the rank and file), and it is the best interests of the members they're entrusted to fight for.

O'Brien figures he's got his pie card. Let's send him back to Shaughnessy & Ahearn; he still holds his seniority there. If that were to happen, I wonder if he'd have time to make his podcasts with celebrities and politicians.
