Today 1,000 Teamsters traveled from all over the country to meet in Orlando, Florida for the inaugural event of the new Teamster Scholarship Fund (and to hang out at Disney World). No word yet on where the Hoffa Scholarship event will be, but it promises to be even bigger and better than Orlando. Who knew our union was so committed to "education".

I hope your not serious about this. Our Local has had scholarship winners in the past. Every year they post applications and those that bother to look take advantage. Not sure why they would go to Orlando, not that there's anything wrong with that, If its true.
(Good job on this site once you figure how to get around.) -

O'Brien can't handle not having something with his name on it when there is something with Hoffa's name, even if it is Hoffa Sr. He went as far as bullying locals with the largest coffers (and his minions as Principal Officers) into giving huge donations. A memo was sent out to all locals with information about a conference call that the principal officers needed to be on IF they hadn't made a pledge or donation yet. Can you say egotistical bully?!?!Comment

Any donations given should be read at your general membership meeting and most locals probably have language in their bylaws that says they have to have approval from the membership for donations over a certain amount.Comment

I checked this out with my BA, who is also our President and this shit is actually true . Locals that didn't give to the O'Brien fund were given 24 hour notice to be on a conference call so their arms could be twisted to give to the new fund even if they already gave to the Hoffa Scholarship fund that we always had. Why do we all of a sudden have two scholarship funds? We're told that the new one raised 5 million dollars from locals. If there are aproximately 400 local unions that more than $12,000 per local union. That seems like a lot of money at a time like this when we should be growing the union. I'm pretty sure our local gave something. Is there a way to find out how much was given. Is this supposed to be pubic.

Don’t believe Hoffa ever exerted the pressure to contribute that O’Brien and company has . Do they feel they have reason to fear non participation?Comment
