I think most people here will say the answer is no.

This is an opportunity for TDU to show the kind of independence that once made the organization creible. Can you imagine how they'd be going after Hoffa or any other GP for half as much? Yet TDU is unable to criticize SOB in the slightest, for anything. Why?

I’ve known TDU for over 20 years , for the first time they are not the target of the ibt. They finally learned that it serves them better to have a friend in Washington who endorses them. Who sends members to their convention and fills their treasurey , who invites them into the marble palace and hires them to write their literature and to have a president who graces them with his presence at their convention. . All it took for Paff to be accepted was reinventing TDU! No more of those hurtful articles about discrimination, about miss information, about outrageous policies, about violations of members rights and so on. First they had to revoke many of their past practices, no more members bill of rights, no more reporting of outrageous salaries , a rethinking of their position on multiple pensions and multiple salaries.
ALL IT COST WAS THEIR SOUL.

Ken Paff needs to ask himself just how did it work out for Jabez Stone in the Devil and Daniel Webster and Dr Faustus? Selling your soul is never worth it in the end. But in Paff’s own words “ we got a seat at the table” poetic justice is that he found himself on the menu.

Anyone who has known Paff over the years knows his primary function and goal was to keep his woefully underfunded organization alive. That included the taking of grants from corporations and covid dollars from the federal government and the American taxpayer. You could easily argue that this was understandable given the noble cause and stances TDU has taken over the years.

It's easy to see now given the obvious malfeasance and incompetence of the IBT, that Paff is who he always was and never valued the ideals his group espoused over the dollars needed to fund it's largely white male non Teamster staff. They defended the racist discharge of 13 organizers of color by attacking them on the TDU page on (drum roll please) Martin Luther King day. They sold UPSers a contract that is now resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. The dollars are now rolling in from O'Brien supporting locals for their convention. All things considered still pretty woeful for any organization of respectability. Whoring yourself out for dollars shows the moral depravity of Ken Paff and his sidekick Levin. They have shown themselves to be nothing more than TURDS.

Do the new younger members realize just how much TDU has switched their views? I saw some old news stories they printed, they really trashed O’Brien as being the worst, did O’Brien change?

Great question, as they say the proof is in the pudding. I hope they wake up but given that they (the TDU membership) keep electing the bought and sold dynamic duo of Paff and Levin it's not likely. TDU is done as a reform movement.

I always thought a “Seat at the table” was a situation in which someone is included in a discussion and can influence any decisions that are made. In other words, when one is provided with a seat at the table, it represents an opportunity to be heard and to make a difference.

In TDU’s case, they already had transformative seats at their Own Table. Nickjamesups is correct when he pointed out how TDU use to expose and provide the truth about our union. Their reporting was a great source of independent, reliable news motivating Teamster members and Officers to fight for change. And change they made!

TDU’s claim of moving up to the “Adult Table” is of benefit to the reform movement is little more than a pathetic attempt to justify its sellout. Given O’Brien's past track record, in its own reporting TDU knew exactly whom they were climbing into bed with.

BTW who has the TDU seat at the OZ table?

Leadership at TDU may be ok with the teamsters union being drug into the Trump world by O'Brien, but what about TDU members? What about the people that come to convention and contribute, are they likely Trump supporters? Its time they took a look at the role TDU is playing as O'Brien continues to support Trump regardless of his policies.

I know many TDU members who are not happy with the blind support of O’Brien which has only been added to by O’Brien supporting Trump. The next convention is about 8 months away and I will be there, between now and then I plan to try and build a campaign to let Paff and company know that many of us are not happy and will challenge their leadership or lack there of if they continue this path. Let’s become TDU again!

Good luck. Be aware that Paff goes into the convention with his picks for the steering committee already made. He lobby’s weeks before securing his votes. You will have to build your campaign early as well. Any opposition will be warned of being ostracized if they oppose Paff’s will. Past committee members who openly opposed supporting O’Brien have been replaced unless they bowed to Paff . TDU has become a social group whose past history of reform has become an afterthought.
