Stop the anti-immigrant nonsense and hate

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

    - Emma Lazarus

This is on the Statue of Liberty, and I would wager to guess that most of the white people posting hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric wouldn't be here without the open borders policy of the US that preceded the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924.

Come on Tony, you should know better. This country is in a crisis. It is so bad, that the very person who created the problem, Kamala Harris, is now saying that she is going to seal the border as President. The Democrat Party was behind this conundrum. The people who crossed our border with no regard for the Americans who pay taxes. They are under "Protected Status". All they need to do is claim asylum. A lot of these people can get licenses and firearms without provocation. And real Americans need to go through a process. These people get free money on debit cards and high balances on EBT cards. We got homeless laying on the streets that get treated like dogs. Some of these people we see in Ohio are driving cars without a license and insurance with no regard to laws and the police can't do a thing about it because of this protected status. Who created this problem? One party. The Democrats. They invited these people here and cried racism if you objected and set them up in former hotels. So these corrupt business owners tore their logos off their properties and collected $1,500/month plus per room on no compete contracts. We spent over 66 billion dollars on these people and only spent 3 billion on Veterans.

You don't understand why ordinary Americans are pissed off? And, you are blaming this on racist white people that are calling this out?

It’s illegal to drive without a license or insurance. So yes, the police can do something about it. Temporary protected status is not immunity from all laws

Dana, Harris told them not to come. She supported the Republican drafted border bill.

Yep, he is out of touch Dana. He is part of the problem. All the heat for older white men is what drives people to Trump. He doesn’t understand that a lot of us look at a guy like him and we want to puke in our mouth and vote for Trump. That might be a bad statement and it might be wrong. But listen this guy type away on the inner webs makes me wanna puke in my mouth. I do not have a good feeling about the youth in this country with i People like him Acting like they are smart and in touch when really they’re so out of touch.

This is so faux pas. I say that with respect and not contempt. Trump sought funding and was blocked at every attempt during his Presidency. There was a temporary shut down of the government over this and he circumvented and got military emergency funding. Have we forgotten about the Secure and Succeed Act of 2018 (S. 2193), R. 4760 - Securing America’s Future Act of 2018, H.R. 6136 - Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018, Kate’s Law and Sanctuary City Policies- Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004), Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) / “Remain in Mexico” Policy, Zero Tolerance Policy regarding illegal immigration, The termination of Protected Staus, The ending of catch and release policy, etc. All the Acts described above were blocked by Democrats and Kamala Harris. This announcing of "don't come" was only requested after a crisis was already realized. Let's also not forget what Biden's first act after becoming president was to cease all border wall activities and sold the metal for pennies on the dollar.

      Democrats created this problem.

I like his work on the movement to help expose TDU as being anti-union. Our philosophical differences are far apart. That last statement was indeed a travesty to say. It's sad that people feed in to this "it's the white man's fault" coming from Anglo Saxons. I would agree, white people are racist. Black people didn't burn those poor and middle class neighborhoods to the grown during the riots. It was deranged white liberal men and women. It's the same people that shit on Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. So sad to see race being used to make a point.

And I will say this, my ancestors were here long before the Constitution was written. My ancestor was the first Treasurer of the United States and I read a lot of his writings to Benjamin Franklin and race was never mentioned. Before these people start tearing down statues they better learn that the founding father Thomas Jefferson ended the slave trade.

So your family came here when there was no border. And took land from the people who were already here. Who’s the illegal immigrant, Pilgrim?
          Jefferson owned slaves.

        Dana,

“Despite working tirelessly to establish a new nation founded upon principles of freedom and egalitarianism, Jefferson owned over 600 enslaved people during his lifetime, the most of any U.S. president.”

She was opposed to anything that secured the border up till 2023 when there was a bill introduced (Bipartisan Border Solutions Act) that forced Senators to earmark billions to Ukraine and Israel. Of the total $118 billion package, $60 billion was allocated to support Ukraine in its war against Russia. This package also included $20.23 billion for border security and $14.1 billion for security assistance to Israel, along with other foreign aid. This bill was opposed because it wasn't a sole border bill. This was a feeble attempt to show support for something they opposed for years. The damage was already done.

Throughout his entire life, Thomas Jefferson was publicly a consistent opponent of slavery. Calling it a “moral depravity”1 and a “hideous blot,”2 he believed that slavery presented the greatest threat to the survival of the new American nation.3 Jefferson also thought that slavery was contrary to the laws of nature, which decreed that everyone had a right to personal liberty.4 These views were radical in a world where unfree labor was the norm.

And you do realize after the death of his wife, he was in a relationship with a black woman and had 6 children?

Thomas Jefferson, “I congratulate you, fellow-citizens, on the approach of the period at which you may interpose your authority constitutionally to withdraw the citizens of the United States from all further participation in those violations of human rights which have been so long continued on the unoffending inhabitants of Africa, and which the morality, the reputation, and the best interests of our country have long been eager to proscribe.”

Notably Jefferson’s relationship with Hemings began when she was 14

“1787 he sent for his youngest daughter, Maria, who was escorted by Hemings, then 14 years old. It was during that time that an intimate relationship between Hemings and Jefferson is thought to have begun. In 1789 Jefferson and Hemings returned to the United States. She resumed her work at Monticello, and Jefferson’s records noted that, over the next two decades, she gave birth to six children.”
Sally Hemings was an American slave who was owned by U.S. Pres. Thomas Jefferson and is widely believed to have had a relationship with him that resulted in several children. (Read Joseph Ellis’s Britannica essay on the Sally Heming’s affair.) Hemings, known as Sally but who was likely named Sarah,

The founding Fathers loved slavery so much that they wrote to abolish the slave trade in the Constitution.

Article I, Section 9: "The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight..."

Like I said, he was a devout abolitionist. Your argument that he owned the most slaves while wanting to abolish it doesn't hold water.

You should come to South Philly and try to tear down the Columbus statue. Would love to see you try.

Thank you Brother Tony Cochran! Immigrants, in solidarity with those here before them, were among the driving forces and shock troops for building the US labor movement, from the IWW through the CIO,
and today this continues. Immigrant workers are among the most militant members in union organizing drives and in defending their collective bargaining agreements.

The Democrats pander to illegal immigrants. Trump found his snitch by being anti-illegal immigrant and then turned it into being racist towards everybody. We all know this happened in front of everybody. They knew it they watched and it happened. Now you have to figure out a way to quit feeling sorry for yourself And figure out a way to be more inclusive.
