Nominations will take place in person at the union hall (1850 NE 162nd Ave Portland, OR 97230) on October 6th at 10am.

Ballots will be mailed out on October 18th and members must return them to be received by post or in-person by 5pm on Friday, November 4th 2024.

Make sure the Local has your correct address by calling 503-257-0162.

I talked to Tony about this. We are not running or supporting on opposition slate. I heard rumors about the DSA but they are two-faced and talk trash about Davison behind his back but never actually took action. They abandoned the Vote No at Swan Island. IDK how Tony feels but I can’t support them if they are running. Stewards are asking people about automation get the mood of members. I think turnout will be low. Davison will win. Tony and lots of sorters like Matt Koontz. More later

I agree, not a real opposition. We are not running anyone but the rumor is that the DSA might be. I don’t know what their game plan is or if they have one. They haven’t been campaigning. Tony thinks Davison will clearly win. There are some good people running on his slate,,, Bobby Rispler and Matt Koontz are solid dudes I’ve been told. Tony hasn’t been focused on any opposition slate because we’ve got bigger issues at the moment. And there’s not anyone ready to lead.

Matt Konz is a good BA.
Bobby Rispler is a good organizer and BA (partly trained by the late Howard Williamson).

Mark Davison is, as I have said to his face, utterly incompetent. Ben Vedus is likewise incapable or unwilling to engage in fighting for or negotiating a good contract; on the other hand, he does have a lot of institutional knowledge at the level of shop-floor representation. He is not entirely useless.

Any competing slate would have needed to take in the complex dynamics between the membership and the varied group of BAs that would be on the ticket with Davison. Personally, I would have voted for Konz and Rispler, and left the others blank. If there is no opposition, then there will be no secret ballot per the LMRDA.
