    Silence is complicity

I am extremely proud to have been a member of 'Teamsters For A Democratic Union'. Even more proud of the accomplishments it has made toward reform as a watchdog organization. Such pride, as well as gratitude, shall never be diminished with respect to the success it has had. That said, I am profoundly dismayed at the level of which it has sat back and remained silent with respect to actions, as well as non-actions, of some of the GEB's members that are clearly not aligned with principles once held by TDU. SILENCE IS COMPLICITY!

You are 100% correct ! The TDU that you and many others are/were proud of no longer exists. I look at the “ leaders” and can only recall the movie “ Invasion of the body snatchers” they have been replaced by non feeling duplicates who have lost any resemblance of who they used to be.

How about all the people that were promised jobs like Sean Orr and then were ditched by O'Brien?

Particularly when the Teamsters just won an NLRB decision that potentialy kicks the door open on organizing Amazon. That decision came from a Biden/Harris appointed NLRB board. It never would have happened under Trump's appointed managment lawyer NLRB. Sad to see TDU take a nuetral position on something so important to workers and the union, sad. Really can't say I'm surprised by anything at this point.

We must ask ourselves these questions , was TDU silent when under Hoffa there were the many outrageous that occurred? Were they silent about multiple salaries and multiple pensions ? We’re they silent about threatening members and being suspended for it? We’re they silent about outrageous salaries? We’re they silent when contracts were negotiated in secret ? We’re they silent about the treatment members received from the red vested thugs at the conventions? We’re they silent about retaliation and discrimination lawsuits being paid out by the IBT? Would they have been silent about false reporting of membership numbers ? Would they have been silent about the ibt using a union busting law firm against retired members for speaking out ?
History will remember Paff and company for who they have really shown themselves to be. But hey , they got a seat at the table.

Who is Sean Orr and what is so good about him. What are his accomplishments as a Teamster?

Please don't consider my post on 8/24 pertaining to TDU to be a condemnation. It is not. TDU is primarily, as well as partly, responsible for other positve changes that otherwise may not have occured. The hard work and dedication of its staff and membership, for decades, has been sacrificial in a way that the vast majority of workers would not even have thought of. My opinion is that TDU may simply be a "victim" of its own successes. The Teamsters, at all levels, is now more responsible to the membership than at any other time in its history. TDU is partly responsible for this. It seems that for this reason TDU's role may have evolved. Personally, I would prefer to see it remain critical whenever necessary or practical. Although salaries of IBT officers are not exorbitant as they once were there are still many receiving multiple salaries. I was an organizer, Business Agent, as well as a PO. If you perform either of these effectively it is not possible to have enough time to work and earn another full salary. TDU has historically stayed out of US politics. However, Sean's appearance at the RNC was dispicable. As a former TDU member I have a feeling that at its core it shares some of my opinions. I have opinions about other matters as well. You get the idea. I know first hand how much harder officers work for the membership knowing that it is "nipping at your heals". I simply happen to believe that TDU is better served by always continuing to nip,

Organizations are GREAT until they are not! Seems like you know they are wrong but your recollection of who they used to be is painful to you now. You are not alone , there are many former TDU members who prefer to stay silent rather than comment on the present entity that calls itself TDU. Sorry.

I've been accused of many things as most have. Never been accused of being disingenuous or afraid to be candid. If I felt that "they are wrong" I would have very willlfully stated so. Now, in my experience, which is vast, most TDU haters have fallen into one of two categories. 1) Those that have been misled by the Old Guard and choose to remain so. 2) Those that have been challenged and naturally defend rather than process thoughts. I'm certain that my reads here have been accurate. I'm sorry that my statement was not a strong condemantion as you would prefer. Simply a critique Brother/Sister.

I stand by my above post , if you don’t believe all those stated events that TDU has remained mute on is WRONG then I guess we have to agree to disagree. The TDU that existed under the Carey years was a great organization , the TDU that held Hoffa accountable was a great organization. It can’t be said the same any longer. Just my opinion.

It's a fact that TDU is no longer a reform organization. They are now irrelevant!
