Response to Perrone letter to Carol Tome ?

Dear Vinnie

Thank you for your invitation to visit Maspeth, by the way I can still do that, it’s our building not yours! I would love to speak with your members and discuss just how their working conditions have changed due to the contract you negotiated. As always we had a plan, perhaps that is something you may try in the future. We sat back and allowed you to put on your show for your members ( by the way , we loved the panda suit) you did a great job of rallying your members into a strike frenzy, when you settled so quickly we were actually a little surprised. You left so much on the table we were amazed at how easily you folded. I would love to inform your members of just how long our automation plans were in place, all we needed was a three to four year period without labor unrest to implement our plans. We were able to increase wages to get to a quick settlement knowing that the reduction of hourly employees would more then negate the raises effect on our corporation. The reduction in pension contributions was an added gift, the fact that you could slip that past your members was a monumental coup on your behalf. We watched in awe as your president was able to receive a huge increase in his pension fund at the cost of the rest of your union. Not surprised since his fund had become the worst in the country under his leadership, well that’s fixed now, guess he took better care of his members then you did.
You say you have no valid answers for your members? You do! You simply do not know how to tell truth in a way that will not make you look like a leader who has been duped by your own leadership. O’Brien gained everything for his New England members while your members are paying the price.
I really try not to gloat but you made it so simple to do so. The automation language ( actually tha lack of language) you settled for is why I got my bonus last year, thank you .
I could go on and on but I will stop here. I would love to visit Maspeth again, let me ask you this, do you really want me speaking with your members? They would certainly have more questions for you then they would have for me. I
I lead a very large corporation perhaps you should try and lead your union.

Couldn't of written it better. Vinnie would be bitch slapped by Ron Carey after allowing O'Brien to take care of his members in pension while fucking over the overwhelming majority of UPSers.

With the $2.50 in pension extra the 804 pension could have jumped up another $500 to $800 a month.

This was very well written. I seriously doubt that it was written by Tome but it really does hit some good points. Why would we expect this company to do anything different from the way they have in the past? Why does Perrone ask questions he already knows the answer to? Whoever wrote this is absolutely correct on one thing, the members should have more questions for Perrone then they would have for Tome.

If I had to critique both letters I would have to say Carol wins. I found Perrones letter a little whiney and self serving. Trying to blame the company for being heartless? What company have you been dealing with in your 30 years? This historic contract seems to allow everything you are complaining about. So we are to blame Carol?
