Swan Island Layoffs Continue, Local 162 Silent

More and more UPS part-timers who were told they would not be laid off are now being laid off for a week. Our local has not made any statements about this or even spoken to the members directly. Our Independent Teamsters Organizing Committee is working to figure out how deep these NEW layoffs are, as no one in union leadership is.

Davison is a failure to the members.

That's a good question, Faust. The Master Layoff List is not, to the best of my knowledge, available to the general membership. Those under a year are facing a very weird time, and their numbers may increase as feeder positions are eliminated.

Yes Tony is trying to map out where volume is going talking to feeders and some more open management elements. Large chunks flowing from our old hub to newer automated hub like Alderwood and Tacoma and Hillsboro. Tony will give an update later on what he’s finding—it’s not good and with feeder bids next month more layoffs expected. Unfortunately the union either doesn’t know shit or isn’t saying shit. TURD is the word!

I really wish we had SOME info from our union leaders but they are AWOL! They aren’t in the hub? They don’t answer calls from laid off members—they don’t talk with them about their options despite promises of some “rapid response team” . What are we paying these people for?
