TEAMSTERS FIGHT — AND WIN — TOGETHER

In a massive show of solidarity, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced it will increase strike pay to $500 per week for DHL Teamsters at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), who are fighting for a first contract. The increase will go into effect in the event DHL forces hardworking members out on strike instead of coming to terms on a fair agreement.

“The International Union stands ready to empower DHL-CVG workers in their fight for material dignity and respect in the workplace,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, who was present for DHL-CVG negotiations on Thursday. “The holidays are upon us. This gigantic shipping company does not want to play chicken with the Teamsters at such an important time for the logistics industry and for our members.”

“The clock is running out for DHL to decide whether it will do right by these workers,” said Teamsters Express Division Director Bill Hamilton. “If DHL can’t muster the decency to give workers a fair contract and end its anti-union activities, then the Teamsters will force this company to do the right thing.”

DHL has dragged out contract negotiations with the Teamsters for months. DHL-CVG workers have organized for better pay and for DHL to address its unfair labor practices. The company’s refusal to resolve outstanding issues only further risks the potential for a work stoppage at CVG during the middle of peak shipping season.

“The increase in strike pay means we can hit the picket line with greater peace of mind for our livelihoods and our families,” said Gina Kemp, a DHL-CVG ramp and tug worker. “DHL must come to terms with the fact that we are not cogs in their machine. We are everyday people looking for our fair share of the massive profits we generate for this company. If DHL leaves us with no choice but to strike, then we have the solidarity and the means to do so.”
