ORGANIZING GLOBAL UNITY TO TAKE ON AMAZON
Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman and Teamsters Canada President François Laporte led global discussions this week on building worker power and increasing strategic organizing efforts at Amazon in partnership with the ITF - International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF).
The federation’s Road Transport Steering Committee assembled this week in Tokyo as international unions, including the Teamsters, coordinate to combat anti-worker efforts by some of the world’s biggest logistics companies. Zuckerman, the U.S. Vice Chair of the committee, addressed UPS Teamsters’ historic contract victory this summer and the union’s expanding campaign to organize delivery drivers and warehouse workers across Amazon’s entire logistics network.
Laporte serves as the committee’s Canadian Vice Chair.
The ITF steering committee passed a resolution during the summit to support global actions among all unions to build worker power at Amazon. The resolution will be presented for adoption at the ITF’s 46th Congress in Morocco next year.
