A coalition of Teamster pilots attended a hearing hosted by Sen. Tammy Duckworth last week (D - Ill.) in the US Senate Subcommittee on Aviation, Safety, Operations and Innovation - "Addressing Close Calls to Improve Aviation Safety." During the hearing, members of the subcommittee heard from union leaders, industry experts and NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy about efforts to improve the culture, processes, and technologies around our aviation safety systems.
One of the biggest threats to our aviation safety system is coming from Congress - Right now, the FAA reauthorization bill is set to modify pilot training requirements and the mandatory retirement age. This will jeopardize safety standards, expose passengers to unnecessary risks, and create unnecessary disruptions to the industry. Sign our petition and tell Congress to Preserve the Mandatory Retirement Age (65) and Retain the 1500-Hour Flight Experience Requirement.
