Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General-Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman continued site visits across Detroit on Wednesday with a stop at the UPS Woodbridge Center. Joined by Scott Quenneville, President of Teamsters Local 243, O’Brien met with hundreds of UPS Teamsters to discuss contract enforcement and the importance of exercising our rights under Article 18 of the UPS National Master Agreement.



As Southeast Michigan faces a dangerous heat wave with temperatures approaching 100 degrees, O’Brien reminded members that the contract guarantees the right to seek medical assistance without harassment or retaliation and to take additional cool-down breaks when experiencing symptoms of heat illness.



“It’s going to be nearly 100 degrees out there today, and your safety is more important than this company’s profit margins,” O’Brien said. “We fought for these heat protections because every Teamster deserves to go home safe at the end of the day. If the heat is getting to you, cool down, take a break, get medical attention if you need it, and don’t let anyone intimidate you. Those are your contractual rights, and UPS is legally obligated to honor every one of them.”
