HAPPENING NOW: Teamsters National Freight Director John A. Murphy is meeting with members of the Teamsters National Freight Industry Negotiating Committee (TNFINC) -- which includes Assistant Freight Directors and International Vice Presidents Danny Avelyn and Tony Jones -- to go over proposals for the national contract at ABF.
The TNFINC screening committee is committed to prioritizing the issues that matter most based on the input from members at ABF. In December, thousands of ABF Teamsters submitted bargaining surveys to share their top concerns at the company. Rank-and-filers will also serve as full members of the negotiating committee.
"We are ready, we are militant, and we will win a strong national contract for Teamster members at ABF this year. Our negotiating team isn’t going to back down. We have a plan and a vision focused entirely on getting our freight members what they deserve,” Murphy said. "The Teamsters Freight Division has met with thousands of members in the last year to learn firsthand what issues need to be addressed. We are ready to fight for a strong contract at ABF that addresses these issues and puts members first.”
February has been a busy month for the Freight Division. On Feb. 9, local leaders representing members at TForce Freight met in Washington to review the union’s proposals for upcoming contract negotiations with the company. The following week, on Feb. 13, the Division took a strong position at Yellow Freight, demanding that the company answer all local unions’ questions on how the proposed changes would affect specific locations, as well as freight flows, volumes, zip code alignments, manning, and applicable work rules.
The negotiating committee will keep members informed throughout the bargaining process at both TForce and ABF, so stay tuned for more updates in the days and weeks ahead as the Teamsters head the table to fight for strong national contracts at both companies.
