Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman spoke alongside Public Services and Health Care Division Director Peter Finn today at the division’s conference in San Diego to a room packed with 300 Teamsters from across the nation.

In the last year, the Public Services and Health Care Division has achieved many significant accomplishments from 10,000 nurses at Corewell Health East joining Teamsters Local 2024 to 1,000 administrative workers and 320 Financial Analysts at the University of California. Major battles to protect workers in the sector continue, like 750 nurses and case workers who are on strike at Henry Ford Genesys in Michigan and nearly 1,100 hospital workers who are fighting for their contract at Rush University Hospital in Chicago.

“There are a quarter-million Public Services Teamsters from every corner of the country and at every kind of company,” said Zuckerman. “And we’re continuing to grow that density because we have no greater recruiting tool than the contracts we secure through our militancy. That’s why workers at every type of employer you can think of are fighting to become Teamsters, and that’s how we will not only maintain our strength but grow it into the future.”
