Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien joined rank-and-file members of Local 396 for the union’s annual Stewards Appreciation Dinner in Los Angeles. Speaking alongside Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 396 and Teamsters Western Region International Vice President, O’Brien met with stewards leading on the shop floor and fighting for over 13,000 members throughout Southern California.



“Local 396 shop stewards are leading some of the biggest fights our union has ever taken on—at UPS, Waste Management, Republic Services, and beyond,” O’Brien said. “You’re not waiting for contracts to expire—you’re organizing now to take on the biggest waste companies in the country. With Victor Mineros and this dedicated team of militant rank-and-file stewards, Local 396 is raising the bar for what it means to fight, to organize, and to win.”



Last month, Local 396 launched its most ambitious contract campaign ever, uniting more than 3,000 waste workers across eight companies and 29 facilities in Southern California to fight for stronger contracts in the sanitation industry. In the last year alone, Local 396 has had multiple organizing victories at Republic Services and negotiated record contracts in the sanitation industry.
