Today, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien testified before the U.S. Senate HELP Committee at a hearing on federal labor law reform, highlighting the Teamsters' work across the aisle to secure real change for American workers by supporting the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA).

O’Brien detailed the critical importance of passing the FLCA with examples of organizing campaigns where employers stall negotiations for a first contract after workers vote to become Teamsters. Such corrupt tactics are employed right now by corporate management at Corewell Health East in Michigan and for years by Amazon at the JFK8 warehouse in Staten Island.

“For the first time in recent memory, we have labor reform legislation — the Faster Labor Contracts Act — that is both bipartisan and bicameral,” O’Brien said. “This shows a recognition that labor law must work better for American workers and that both parties have a role to play in that effort.”

“The biggest and richest corporations in the history of the world like Amazon are making money like we’ve never seen before, but they don’t want to pay their workers,” said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who introduced the important legislation alongside Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ). "Meanwhile, Amazon is trying to fight the Teamsters every step of the way as you try to get basic representation for their drivers. This is why the Faster Labor Contracts Act is so important. We need to empower the American worker and give them a voice."
