A group of 25 Republic Services workers at a transfer station in Huntington Beach, Calif., has voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 396.



Republic is the second largest waste corporation in America, raking in over $16 billion last year alone.



The Teamsters Union represents nearly 8,000 Republic Services workers, including over 2,600 in California.



“This victory shows the strength, courage, and determination of working people standing together for a better future,” said Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 396 and Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. “Republic Services workers have spoken loud and clear: they want a union, they want respect, and they want to be part of the nationwide Teamsters movement that is raising standards in the solid waste and recycling industry.”
