HAWLEY, BERNIE GRILL AMAZON’S NOMINEE FOR NLRB

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) grilled Crystal Carey, Amazon’s preferred nominee to be the next General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on Wednesday during a hearing of the Senate Health, Labor, Education, and Pensions Committee. Both senators defended American workers and shot down Carey’s cowardice and unwillingness to acknowledge whether she believes the NLRB to be constitutional, the legitimacy and legality of anti-labor captive audience meetings, and the reality that Amazon is an employer of its delivery drivers.

Carey, whose nomination the Teamsters Union opposes, is a partner at Morgan Lewis, one of the nation’s worst anti-union law firms. Amazon is one of Carey’s top clients — a direct conflict of interest for the potential General Counsel, whose decisions and oversight could negatively impact millions of American workers.

“Nothing you’ve said so far has allayed my concerns,” Hawley told Carey during her HELP testimony. “In fact, you’re worsening them as I sit here.”

“You have no answer,” Sanders told Carey, “as to whether or not the agency you hope to work for is constitutional.”

The Teamsters Union applauds Sen. Hawley and Sen. Sanders for standing up for the rights of Amazon workers, rank-and-file Teamsters, and American workers everywhere.
