The Teamsters Union and Make the Road New Jersey joined forces at the statehouse in Trenton to demand that lawmakers pass Assembly Bill 5022, which would require employers to safeguard workers from the hazards of extreme weather conditions by providing access to hydration, air conditioning, warmth or shade, and other protections.

"Billion-dollar multinational corporations like Amazon have a moral and civic duty to protect the people who make them profitable from exposure to excessive heat and the elements," said Al Rispoli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 73. "Every day we delay passing this bill into law is another day we risk putting workers' health and lives in jeopardy. We urge elected officials to promptly pass this bill."

Along with New Jersey, Teamsters are currently advocating for a heat standard in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington all have occupational standards for extreme temperature exposure.
