UNITED AIRLINES TEAMSTERS PUSH FOR SAFETY & SICK LEAVE PROTECTIONS
In Wednesday’s bargaining session, the United Airlines Teamsters National Negotiating Committee zeroed in on key non-economic issues.
The first item addressed by the committee was adverse conditions. The union is calling on the carrier to provide clear communication lines during extreme events that could impact work, including a dedicated phone number at each station for Teamsters to call and inquire about the status of their facility.
“We’ve made progress on safety, but it’s not final until it’s in writing,” said Clacy Griswold, Chairman of the United Airlines Teamsters National Negotiating Committee. “All we are asking for is consistent procedures for monitoring, communicating, and operating in adverse conditions. Our members deserve nothing less than the company’s maximum effort to ensuring their safety on the job.”
The committee also pressed the carrier to protect Teamsters with chronic or serious medical conditions from unfair discipline during their leave.
With the December 5 contract deadline approaching, United Airlines Teamsters are fighting for the industry-leading contract they deserve.
