Just because Costco tells investors it values workers doesn’t mean it's immune to grotesque corporate greed

Just because Costco tells investors it values workers doesn’t mean it's immune to grotesque corporate greed. Last year, former CEO Craig Jelinek earned 336 times more than the average Costco employee. No company, no matter how “worker-friendly” it claims to be, should be paying its executives millions while leaving behind the people who keep the shelves stocked and stores running.

“Costco is becoming just another corporation, no different from the competitors it claims to be morally superior to,” said Tom Erickson, Teamsters Central Region Vice President and Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “The Teamsters have a clear message for Costco: if you’re truly ‘pro-worker,’ prove it at the bargaining table. Stop lining the pockets of your executives and start rewarding the workers who made you the third-largest retailer in the world.”
