TEAMSTERS MEET IN BOSTON TO REVIEW STATE OF THE UNION

Teamsters leadership and officers, business agents, and stewards from New England and along the East Coast met in Boston on Friday for the first of the union’s biannual regional meetings. The strength, solidarity, and strategies of the International Union were front and center as Teamsters coordinate substantial organizing and contract campaigns nationwide, from Amazon to Costco, DHL, United Airlines, and at other major employers and core industries.

“We are seeing more engagement, more militancy, and more wins for workers throughout the Teamsters Union today than labor has seen in decades. It’s a testament to our hardworking local unions, to the members, and to our shared commitment to improve the lives of American workers at all costs,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien.

Under the direction of O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, the Teamsters have organized more than 40,000 new members into the union in the past two years. During the Eastern Region meeting, affiliates heard reports on active campaigns and investments from the Office of the General Secretary-Treasurer, as well as International departments for Organizing, Data and Contracts, Political and Legislative Action, Human Rights and Diversity, Training and Grants, and Strategic Initiatives.

Union officers received reports on critical organizing strategies within the Teamsters Amazon Division and regional insight for East Coast membership from Tom Mari, President of Teamsters Joint Council 10 in New England.

Additional meetings will be held with Teamsters affiliates this fall in Minneapolis, Dallas, and Phoenix.
