UNITED AIRLINES MEMBERS ADDRESS TEAMSTERS EASTERN REGION MEETING
Prior to contract negotiations resuming in Denver, rank-and-file Teamsters at United Airlines addressed the union’s Eastern Region meeting in Boston on Friday to stress the importance of continuing to build a united front to win a record contract at the national air carrier.
United Airlines Teamsters Ron Forziati, Phil Scardino, and Tom Fenchel spoke about the contract campaign with business agents, officers, stewards, and union leaders from across the East Coast, including Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman.
“It’s crucial that we fight for all our brothers and sisters in the airline industry and take on United with one powerful voice,” said Forziati, a Teamsters Local 25 member who serves on the United Airlines Teamsters National Negotiating Committee. “In my 28 years as a United Airlines technician, I’ve never seen more determination or unity in the Teamsters than we are witnessing today. United Airlines is in for some turbulence when negotiations continue next week in Denver.”
To ensure members win the best possible contract at the carrier, Teamsters leadership has been meeting with rank-and-filers at Newark International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Portland International Airport, Denver International Airport, Houston Intercontinental Airport, and Boston Logan Airport. More location visits, parking lot meetings, and member rallies lie ahead in the days and weeks to come.
“We aren’t just fighting for a pay increase — we are fighting for the safety and health of our families,” said Fenchel, a Local 25 member and 26-year Aviation Maintenance Technician at United Airlines. “As the cost of living rises across the country, it’s more difficult to make ends meet, especially for our younger members. However, thanks to the passion and energy of Teamsters nationwide, we are going to win this fight and get the contract we have earned.”
