TEAMSTERS TRAVERSE, MAINTAIN WATERS OF CAPE COD

Following visits this morning with UPS Teamsters along the south shore of Massachusetts, General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman met with Local 59 members at the Steamship Authority servicing Cape Cod and The Islands. Local Principal Officer George Belanger also participated in the discussions with members at the Hyannis and Woods Hole locations.

Local 59 represents hundreds of workers at the Steamship Authority in a full range of job classifications including deckhands, captains, pilots, ticket personnel, shuttle drivers, parking attendants and security staff.

“Cape Cod and The Islands see huge numbers of tourists and travelers in the spring and summer, and Teamsters expertly manage the increased workload every year. But our members’ work doesn’t stop when the nice weather does — Teamsters at the Steamship Authority provide vital services to the citizens of the Commonwealth year-round. They ensure the safety and transportation of passengers, vehicles, cargo, and other goods and services between the islands and the mainland, and — because they’re Teamsters — they do the job effectively and proudly,” O’Brien said.
